On Windows, you can also open the menu with a keyboard shortcut; on Android and iPhone, use the Edge app menu and tap Settings.
Open Microsoft Edge Settings on Windows or Mac
- Launch Microsoft Edge.
- Select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner.
- Select Settings.
Use the search box at the top of Settings or select a category from the navigation pane to find an option.
Open Settings Directly with an Address
Select Edge’s address bar, enter the following, and press Enter:
edge://settings
This opens the main Settings page.
Use a Keyboard Shortcut on Windows
Press Alt+F or Alt+E to open the Settings and more menu. You can also press F10, then Enter. Select Settings from the menu.

Find Common Edge Settings
After opening Settings, search for an option or select a category. Edge’s layout and labels can vary with its version and interface rollout.

Open Settings on an Android Phone or iPhone
The mobile Edge app has a separate settings interface from desktop Edge.
- Open the Microsoft Edge app.
- Tap More options (…) or the menu button.
- Tap Settings.

Change Sync Settings on Mobile
- Open More options (…) > Settings.
- Tap your profile image.
- Under Sync settings, tap Sync.
- Change the available toggles, then tap Done.
Some settings, such as extensions and Internet Explorer mode, are desktop-only.
Open Settings from an InPrivate Window
Settings pages cannot be viewed as InPrivate pages. If you enter edge://settings in an InPrivate window, Edge opens the page in a normal browsing window instead.
When an Edge Setting Is Missing or Disabled
Your browser is managed
A work, school, or family administrator can enforce Edge policies. Mandatory policies override your preferences; recommended policies provide defaults you may still be able to change.
Enter edge://policy to view policies applied to the browser. Individual controls may be greyed out, missing, or accompanied by a message such as Your browser is managed by your organization. Update controls may also be unavailable when an organization manages Edge.

Group Policy has not refreshed
On Windows, an administrator can refresh Active Directory Group Policy from an elevated Command Prompt with:
gpupdate /force
Close and reopen Edge so the updated policy can appear.
Your Edge version has a different layout
Edge’s settings labels and layout can change over time, and changes may roll out gradually. Check the installed version at edge://settings/help, or select Settings and more (…) > Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge.
The Settings page will not open
If Edge starts but behaves incorrectly, try these troubleshooting steps:

- Restart Edge and try edge://settings again.
- Open edge://settings/help and install any available update.
- Disable unnecessary extensions.
- Clear browsing data from Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data.
- On Windows, try repair through Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft Edge > Modify > Repair.
The Modify option may be unavailable when an organization installed or manages Edge.

Why is an Edge setting greyed out?
An administrator may have enforced an Edge policy. Enter edge://policy to view policies currently applied to the browser.
Where are Internet Explorer mode settings in Edge?
Open Settings > Default browser, or enter edge://settings/defaultBrowser in the address bar.
