There is no authoritative, permanent registry of Pirate Bay proxy or mirror domains, so a list cannot reliably guarantee that a domain works or is safe. Unofficial mirrors may be blocked, abandoned, redirected, cloned, or altered without notice; a proxy does not change copyright rules or make you anonymous. This guide explains what can be verified, the risks to watch for, and legal ways to find films and television programs.

A widely indexed guide titled “The Pirate Bay Proxy List [Working in Apr 2026]” was published on May 18, 2026, after April had ended. Its publication date means it cannot, by itself, prove that every listed domain worked throughout April or that any remains operational on August 7, 2026. Nor does a domain’s appearance on a list establish that it is affiliated with The Pirate Bay.

This article does not provide live proxy addresses or direct readers to unauthorized copies of copyrighted material. Instead, it explains what a proxy changes, what it does not, why unofficial mirrors are risky, and how to find films and television programs through legal services.

Why a “working” Pirate Bay list cannot be verified reliably

Proxy lists are unusually difficult to maintain because the domains they mention are not stable services with a public status page or independently verifiable ownership. A listed address may be:

  • blocked by an internet provider or network administrator;
  • abandoned and later acquired by someone else;
  • redirected to advertising, phishing, or scam pages;
  • a clone that only copies the appearance of the original site;
  • altered to replace search results, magnet links, or download buttons; or
  • temporarily reachable but unsafe to use.

The result is a familiar failure mode: an article says a domain is “working,” a reader visits weeks or months later, and the page now behaves differently. Even testing a domain at one point in April would establish only that it responded during that test. It would not establish that it remained available for the whole month or that it was legitimate.

The indexed April-2026 guide acknowledges risks such as fake mirrors, DNS filtering, intrusive advertising, and malware. Because it was published after April ended, it cannot independently demonstrate continuous availability during April or current availability on a later date.

What a Pirate Bay proxy actually does

A proxy is an intermediary. Instead of connecting directly to a destination, a browser sends a request through another server, which retrieves or relays content. Depending on the design, a mirror may reproduce pages, forward requests, or provide an alternate route around a block.

A proxy can sometimes change which network connection appears to access a site. It does not:

  • make copyrighted material legal to copy or share;
  • grant permission from the copyright owner;
  • verify that a file is authentic or malware-free;
  • make the user anonymous;
  • protect every application from tracking; or
  • turn an untrusted mirror into an official service.

In the United States, copyright owners generally hold exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute protected works, subject to statutory exceptions. The U.S. Copyright Office explains that civil statutory damages can range from $750 to $30,000 per infringed work, with higher amounts possible for willful infringement. See 17 U.S.C. copyright provisions for the relevant framework.

The Department of Justice identifies criminal copyright provisions in 17 U.S.C. § 506(a) and related federal statutes. Criminal liability depends on facts such as willfulness, scale, and commercial advantage or private financial gain. The existence of a proxy or torrent client alone does not establish criminal conduct, but neither does using one create a legal defense.

Why unofficial mirrors are a security problem

A proxy operator controls, or may be able to influence, what the visitor sees. A page that resembles a familiar torrent index can substitute its own scripts, advertisements, links, and prompts. Common hazards include:

What you see What can go wrong
Several large “Download” buttons Some may lead to an installer, an advertising redirect, or a malicious file rather than the requested content.
A browser notification prompt Allowing notifications can enable persistent scam alerts or links to phishing pages.
A forced redirect or pop-up The destination may attempt credential theft, fake virus warnings, or unwanted software installation.
A browser extension recommendation An extension may read browsing data, inject advertising, or alter search results.
A familiar-looking magnet link The link may point to substituted content, a different tracker, or a misleading file.
A request for cryptocurrency payment It may be an extortion or fake-support scam with no legitimate service behind it.

Academic research on public and free proxy services has documented problems including traffic interception, manipulation of downloaded binaries, and malware delivery. Those findings concern public proxy services generally; they should not be treated as forensic proof that every Pirate Bay mirror has the same behavior. They do, however, show why an unknown intermediary deserves less trust than a service with accountable ownership and published security practices.

The FBI has separately warned that torrented content—including games, software, films, and television programs—can contain malware capable of turning an infected device into part of a residential proxy network. A file that appears popular or widely shared is not automatically safe.

Common claims that do not hold up

“A proxy makes downloading legal”

No. It changes the route to a website, not the copyright status of the material. Legality depends on the work, the user’s authorization, applicable exceptions, and local law.

“A proxy makes me anonymous”

No. The proxy operator may be able to log requests or inspect traffic, depending on the connection and service design. Other identifying information can also come from cookies, browser characteristics, account details, payment records, and peer-to-peer connections. A proxy should never be described as anonymous without strong, independently verified evidence.

“HTTPS proves the mirror is legitimate”

No. HTTPS encrypts the connection to the domain shown in the address bar. It does not prove that the domain is operated by The Pirate Bay, that its listings are genuine, or that its files and advertising are safe.

“The torrent with the most seeders is safe”

No. Seeder count indicates availability, not authenticity. A popular torrent can still contain a malicious executable, a tampered archive, or content that is not what its name claims. Popularity is not a malware scan.

“Downloading is always legal if I do not upload”

That is an unreliable generalization. BitTorrent clients commonly upload pieces while downloading, depending on the protocol and client configuration. More broadly, the legality of copying and distribution depends on the material and applicable law—not simply on whether the user intended to upload.

“Everything in a public-domain archive is free to reuse”

Not necessarily. The Library of Congress says users should check the rights statement for each item. Collections can include public-domain material, works with no known restrictions, and items that remain protected or have specific access conditions.

If you already visited an unofficial mirror

Simply opening a page does not prove that a device is infected, but take the following steps if you clicked prompts, downloaded a file, or installed anything:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Close the tab without calling a number shown in a pop-up or downloading a “cleanup” tool.
  2. Remove notification permission. In Chrome, open Settings, then Privacy and security, Site settings, and Notifications; find the unfamiliar site and choose Remove or Block. In Edge, open Settings, Cookies and site permissions, and Notifications. In Firefox, open Settings, Privacy & Security, Permissions, and Notifications, then select Settings.
  3. Delete unfamiliar downloads and do not open installers, cracked software, browser extensions, or archives from the page.
  4. Check installed extensions and applications. Remove anything you did not intentionally install, then restart the browser.
  5. Run security scans with your operating system’s current security software. If you entered a password, change it from a known-clean device and enable multifactor authentication.
  6. Monitor the device. Unexpected CPU usage, new proxy settings, repeated redirects, unknown outbound connections, or disabled security tools justify a deeper malware investigation.

On a work or school device, contact the administrator rather than trying to remove an infection yourself. Do not upload suspicious files to an online scanner if they may contain confidential information.

Legal ways to find a film or television program

For viewers in the United States, JustWatch can show where a title is available to stream, rent, buy, or watch through free ad-supported services. Its listings include services such as Freevee, Tubi, and Pluto TV, and its Price filter can help identify no-cost options. Availability varies by title and location and can change.

The Library of Congress National Screening Room offers films for viewing, including public-domain selections and works with stated access conditions. The Library says the collection contains more than 550 films. Read the rights and access information for the individual item before copying, downloading, or reusing anything.

The Library’s Free to Use and Reuse collections also include public-domain films and other material believed to be free of known restrictions or cleared by the copyright owner. The notice attached to the specific item remains the controlling information; a collection label is not a blanket license for every work.

What a responsible proxy-list article should disclose

A publisher should not label a domain “working in April 2026” unless it independently tested that domain during the stated period, established its relationship to the named service, and recorded the test method and date. Even that evidence would describe a historical observation, not a current safety or availability guarantee.

A trustworthy technical article should also avoid presenting an unverified set of live URLs as recommendations. Doing so can send readers to impersonation sites whose operators, advertising, tracking practices, and download links are unknown.

FAQ

Is there an official Pirate Bay proxy list?

No authoritative, permanent registry can be verified. Proxy and mirror domains may be blocked, abandoned, redirected, cloned, or changed without notice.

Can a proxy hide my IP address?

It may hide a direct connection from the destination site, but the proxy operator may observe or log traffic. Torrent peers, cookies, browser characteristics, accounts, and legal process can also identify activity. A proxy is not anonymity.

Does HTTPS mean a Pirate Bay mirror is safe?

No. HTTPS protects the connection to the particular domain. It does not prove that the domain is official, that its listings are genuine, or that its advertising and files are safe.

Are torrents with many seeders safer?

No. Seeder count measures availability, not authenticity or malware status. A widely shared torrent can still contain malicious or substituted content.

Where can I legally check whether a movie is available?

U.S. viewers can use JustWatch to compare streaming, rental, purchase, and free ad-supported availability. The Library of Congress also provides films through the National Screening Room and Free to Use and Reuse collections, subject to each item’s rights information.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: A “working in April 2026” Pirate Bay proxy list cannot be treated as a verified, lasting resource. Proxy status is temporary, ownership is often unclear, and an unofficial mirror can alter links, ads, scripts, and downloads. A proxy does not change copyright rules or provide anonymity. For films and television, use a legal availability guide such as JustWatch or check the Library of Congress rights information for eligible collections.
