To edit a YouTube livestream after it ends, first make sure YouTube saved an archive. In YouTube Studio, go to Content → Live, open the archived video, and use Editor → Trim & cut to remove material from the beginning, end, or middle. Preview carefully before saving: YouTube Help says saved Editor changes cannot be reverted to the original.
Check that YouTube archived your stream
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. The Studio editing workflow requires an archive to exist. YouTube Help recommends recording a local archive as a backup; if there is no Studio archive, use a separate local recording if you have one.
Edit the archived livestream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Content.
- Choose the Live tab and select the archived stream.
- Open Editor, then choose Trim & cut.
- To trim the start or end, adjust the blue selection so it retains the portion you want.
- To remove a section from the middle, choose New Cut and adjust the red selection over the material to remove.
- Enter times if needed, preview the proposed edit, and discard unsaved changes if it is not right.
- When satisfied, save the edit. Read the save confirmation carefully, then review the video after YouTube processes the change.
YouTube Studio editing limits and cautions
YouTube Help documents the Trim feature for videos shorter than six hours. It also says an unedited video with more than 100,000 views may not be eligible to save changes for channels outside the YouTube Partner Program, except for face blurring. These are YouTube’s stated product limits and may change.
Saving requires care: YouTube Help says changes made with YouTube Studio Editor cannot be reverted to the original using the “Revert to original” feature. Keep a local recording or downloaded copy first if you may need the untouched version. YouTube also recommends checking that local archive files are intact and growing during the broadcast.

Edit the replay or create a highlight?

You can create a highlight while streaming or after the stream ends. The highlight workflow lets you choose a segment, set its title and privacy, and create the highlight video. Stream markers can help locate moments in the timeline.
When to use another editing workflow
If the archive is unavailable, YouTube Studio cannot edit it; use a local recording if you made one. If you need edits beyond the Studio controls described here, the researched YouTube guidance does not recommend a specific outside editor. A separate editor is an option to investigate for more involved production needs, but it is not required for the basic Studio workflow.

FAQ
Where do I find my YouTube livestream replay?
In YouTube Studio, open Content and select the Live tab. The stream must have been archived for it to appear as a replay there.
Can I remove a mistake from the middle of a livestream replay?
Yes. In the video’s Editor, choose Trim & cut → New Cut, select the section to remove, and preview the result before saving.

Can I undo a saved YouTube Studio Editor change?
YouTube Help says saved changes cannot be reverted to the original with the Editor’s “Revert to original” feature. Keep a local or downloaded copy before editing if preserving the original matters.

Can I make a separate short video from my livestream?
Yes. Use Create highlight to select a segment and publish it as a separate highlight video rather than changing the existing replay.
