For a 24/7 YouTube stream made from prerecorded videos, prepare and organize the video files first, then choose a system to deliver them continuously to YouTube. Uploading a video by itself does not start a livestream: a hosted scheduler, local encoder, or compatible hardware must send the ongoing feed using YouTube’s server URL and stream key.
Starting with the source videos lets you check the content and workflow before committing a computer to nonstop encoding. A hosted service can keep your own PC from doing that continuous work, while a local encoder is a better fit when you need live cameras, gameplay, overlays, or direct production control.
Uploading a Video Is Not the Same as Going Live
A regular YouTube upload becomes a video on demand. To create a livestream, an encoder or streaming system sends a continuous feed to YouTube Live. In YouTube’s encoder workflow, you provide the encoder with YouTube’s live server URL and stream key.
For a prerecorded stream, the video file is the source material. A separate delivery system schedules or loops that material and sends the live feed. Depending on the service and setup, a playlist or other feed configuration may also be involved. Check the selected service’s current file-format, size, duration, and looping requirements before preparing a large library.

YouTube’s encoder guidance lists cloud services and hardware encoder options. For example, its documentation describes AJA HELO Plus PlayToStream as able to schedule prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. Check current product availability and compatibility before choosing hardware.
Some service features have specific plan requirements. OneStream Live’s help documentation says its 24/7 feature requires Enterprise and allows a maximum duration of 30 days; confirm current terms directly before relying on that limit. The available research does not establish a reliable cross-vendor price comparison, so compare actual plans and your own equipment and power costs rather than assuming hosting is cheaper.

Check YouTube Eligibility and Stream Settings
YouTube says livestreaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance, so do not leave activation until the planned launch.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP, and publishes encoder bitrate recommendations by resolution, frame rate, and codec. For example, its current settings table recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps using AV1 or H.265, and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps using H.264. These are recommendations, not guarantees; choose a quality your connection can sustain and test the actual setup.

If you are recording local source material, OBS recommends MKV for many recording use cases because an interrupted recording can remain recoverable. OBS notes that MP4 and MOV files require finalization and may be unrecoverable if writing is interrupted. Set Up and Test Before Running Continuously
- Decide whether the program is entirely prerecorded or needs live cameras, gameplay, commentary, or other live inputs.
- For prerecorded content, prepare the source files and playlist, then select a hosted service, local encoder, or compatible appliance to deliver the feed.
- Verify channel eligibility and activation, then configure the chosen system with YouTube’s server URL and stream key as required.
- Test with representative audio and movement. YouTube recommends testing before going live and checking stream health; an unlisted test stream can help you verify the workflow before promoting it.
- Check playback, stream health, bandwidth, and the recovery plan. Confirm who or what will respond if the feed stops.
- Review current file limits, plan terms, and costs before committing to an always-on schedule.
For a local encoder, the computer must stay on and connected, and the software and network need monitoring. For a hosted workflow, verify how the service handles looping, interruptions, and account connection rather than assuming it will restart or remain online without intervention.

When a Prerecorded 24/7 Stream Makes Sense
A continuous prerecorded feed can suit music, ambient scenes, or other material intended for repeat viewing. It is less suitable when viewers expect live responses, unique content in each broadcast, or frequently changing information. If the format depends on live interaction or production inputs, use a workflow that supports those needs.
Before broadcasting, consider whether viewers will understand that the content is prerecorded or looped. A live feed is still being delivered to YouTube, but its source material may not be live. Do not describe a loop as interactive or dynamically updated if it is not.
