You can keep a prerecorded YouTube broadcast running while your computer is off by using a cloud encoder, which sends uploaded media to YouTube from remote infrastructure. A standalone hardware encoder is another option, but it must stay powered and connected to the network. In either case, YouTube requires an encoder feed; an ordinary playlist does not automatically become a live broadcast.
What You Need Before You Start
YouTube’s live-streaming requirements apply whichever encoder you choose. You need a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before you plan to broadcast. Follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, and only stream material you have the rights to use.
You also need an encoder that can send a live feed to YouTube. YouTube’s setup instructions use a Live server URL and stream key in the encoder’s settings. Treat the stream key as confidential access information.

Cloud-service features and terms can change. For example, OneStream Live says its 24/7 feature requires an Enterprise plan and has a maximum duration of 30 days; verify the current terms directly with the provider before choosing it. A service’s claims about its own operation are not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming.

Set Up a Prerecorded 24/7 Stream

Confirm channel eligibility. Verify the channel, check that it has no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days, and allow time for first-time activation, which YouTube says may take up to 24 hours.

Choose an encoder. Select a cloud service that supports your intended prerecorded media and continuous or scheduled YouTube broadcasts, or use a compatible standalone hardware encoder. Check its current operating limits and archive workflow.

Select the content. Upload or schedule only media you have the right to use. Check that it meets YouTube’s rules and that the chosen encoder supports its format and intended playback.

Set up the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or select the stream and copy the Live server URL and stream key into the encoder’s settings. Keep the key private. Some services offer account authorization instead; review the access requested and the provider’s current instructions.

Start and check the feed. Start the encoder and check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room. If you scheduled a broadcast, follow the prompts in the encoder and Studio to start the event.

Plan rotation and archives. Decide how the stream will be restarted or rotated and who will manage its archive. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a single longer broadcast will be archived in full.

Once a cloud encoder has the media and is sending the feed, your home computer and home upload connection need not remain online for that feed. That is how the setup differs from a local encoder, not a promise that the cloud service or YouTube will never have an interruption. Check the provider’s reconnection, monitoring, and alert options.
What to Check in a Cloud Service
Before uploading media or authorizing a service, confirm that its current offer suits your use case. Check whether it supports prerecorded files, live camera input, or both; how it loops or rotates material; duration limits; supported formats and resolutions; reconnection and stream-health alerts; storage and bandwidth allowances; stream-key or account authorization; and archive controls. The research did not establish current pricing, so compare providers’ current plans directly rather than relying on an old price.

Can I stream prerecorded videos live on YouTube?
Yes. An encoder can send prerecorded media as a live feed. You still need an eligible channel, an encoder configured for YouTube, and content you have the right to use.

Does my computer need to stay on?
Not if a cloud encoder is sending the feed from remote infrastructure. A standalone hardware encoder can also work without a computer, but the device itself needs power and a network connection. A local computer or VPS must remain available while it is doing the encoding.
Will YouTube archive a continuous stream?
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not promise a full archive for a single stream at or above that duration. Plan how longer broadcasts will be rotated and how archives will be managed.
Can I use any video in a loop?
No. A loop does not grant you rights to the video, music, or other material. YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service still apply, and a continuous format does not guarantee monetization approval.

Can I switch content without stopping the stream?
That depends on the encoder’s features. Check whether the service or appliance supports scheduling, playlists, or rotation without interrupting the broadcast; do not assume every provider does.
Can a cloud encoder guarantee that my stream will never go offline?
No. Cloud hosting moves the encoding off your computer, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted service. Review the provider’s monitoring, reconnection, support, and broadcast-rotation behavior, and check YouTube Studio while the stream is running.
