Does timing or consistency affect recommendations?
Scheduling a stream when your audience is active can help with immediate turnout. YouTube’s guidance says it has not observed evidence that publish time affects long-term viewership. What changed in YouTube view counting in 2026?
According to YouTube’s Analytics help page, beginning August 24, 2026, a view is counted when playback starts across formats, including live streams, Shorts, and long-form video. YouTube says this change does not affect YouTube Partner Program earnings or eligibility calculations. Those continue to use separate engaged or qualified measures, including engaged watch hours and qualified watch hours as applicable.
As a result, a higher raw view count after the change does not necessarily mean a proportional increase in engaged viewing or YPP eligibility. When comparing older and newer streams, consider watch time, average view duration, retention, and the relevant monetization or eligibility measures as well as views.
