If the video is in Google Drive, open it, use the dropdown beside Share, and select Copy link. Check who can access it before sending. To save a local copy, use Drive’s Download action or Google Photos’ Download option. A Google Search result usually gives you the address of a webpage, not a direct URL to the video file.
First, identify where the video is hosted
“Get a video URL from Google” can mean two different things: copying a share link for a video stored in Drive, or copying the address of a webpage found through Google Search. A Drive share link points to the Drive item and follows its access settings; it is not interchangeable with a direct video-file URL. Google’s documented instructions explain how to share a Drive video, but do not describe a universal Search feature for extracting direct URLs to arbitrary video files.

Copy and share a video link from Google Drive
- On a computer, open drive.google.com and find the video. In Drive search, you can filter by file type Videos.
- Open the video. Select the dropdown beside Share, then choose Copy link. To point someone to a particular moment, choose Copy link to this time if that option is available. Google documents these options in its Drive video instructions.
- Check the file’s sharing settings before sending the link. Choose Restricted when only named or otherwise authorized people should have access. Choose Anyone with the link only when broader access is intended and allowed. Account type or organization policy may limit the available choices. See Google’s Drive sharing guidance.
- Paste the link into the intended message. If practical, check it in the recipient’s access context; do not broaden permissions just to make testing easier.
People opening a restricted link may need to sign in to an account that has permission. An “Anyone with the link” link can be forwarded, so anyone who obtains it may be able to open the file subject to Google’s account and service rules. Google also notes that the owner’s name and email may be visible when a file is shared by link; consider that before sharing sensitive media broadly. To save a local copy on a computer, select the video in Drive, right-click it, and choose Download. Google’s Drive download instructions note that an owner can disable downloads for viewers and commenters. If Download is missing or unavailable, ask the owner for an authorized copy rather than trying to get around the restriction.

Download a video from Google Photos
On a computer
Go to photos.google.com, select the video, then choose More → Download. Follow Google’s Photos download instructions.
On Android
Open the video in Google Photos, choose More → Download, and follow the prompt if the option appears. Google says Download is not shown when the video is already on the device.

Save shared media to your device
In a Google Photos conversation, Save adds a copy to your Photos library; that does not necessarily put the file in the device’s gallery. Download the video separately when you need a local device copy. Google explains this distinction in its Photos sharing instructions.

If a video appears in Search, copy the result’s page address from your browser’s address bar or use the result’s link controls. That address identifies the page, which may contain a player or link to the video; it is not necessarily a direct media-file URL. If the publisher offers an official watch, share, or download option, use it. Google’s documented Drive and Photos workflows do not establish a general way to extract direct-stream URLs from Search results, and a Search listing does not guarantee that the video can be downloaded or that its link will remain available.

Check safety, privacy, and permission
- Be cautious with unfamiliar links and unexpected files. Google’s download guidance warns users to pay attention when a file appears suspicious.
- Before sharing a Drive video, confirm the audience setting and consider whether exposing the owner’s name and email is acceptable.
- If the owner has disabled downloads, request an authorized copy. Do not attempt to bypass account controls or site restrictions.
- Google’s product instructions describe how its services handle sharing and downloads; they do not determine whether you have legal permission to download or redistribute a video hosted by someone else. Use the host’s official options and respect applicable rights.
