You can remove a product-photo background without uploading the image to a background-removal server: use software that processes the image on your computer or phone. But local image processing does not, by itself, prove that an app collects no other data. Check the app’s privacy disclosures separately, and test its cutouts on representative products before using it across a catalog.
What “local background removal” means
A cloud background remover sends an image to a service for processing. A local or on-device tool instead performs the image-processing step on your computer or phone. That distinction addresses whether the photo must be sent to a background-removal server; it does not establish what other information the software may collect, whether it requires an account, or how purchases and telemetry are handled.
Claims about where processing happens should also be read according to their evidence. The options below describe themselves as local or offline in product pages or app-store listings. Those descriptions are not independent network tests.

Options that describe on-device processing

How to check privacy before editing product photos
- Confirm the processing claim. Look for an explicit statement that background removal occurs on the device, not just a general claim that an app is private or secure. For desktop software, check the vendor’s privacy page as well as its product page.
- Read the app-store privacy disclosure separately. On Google Play, inspect the app’s Data safety section for reported collection and sharing. A local-processing claim and a data-safety declaration answer different questions.
- Check account and service requirements. Find out whether setup, licensing, updates, cloud sync, or purchases involve an account or online connection. Do not infer that the whole app operates offline merely because image processing is described as offline.
- Test with non-sensitive images first. If you need stronger assurance than a vendor statement or developer declaration provides, those disclosures alone cannot establish that an image is never transmitted. No independent network test is established for the tools listed here.
Check the cutout before processing a whole catalog
Transparent PNG export is listed for both mobile examples, and LocalBG describes product-photo and batch workflows. Those feature descriptions do not establish comparative cutout quality, speed, hardware requirements, or the limits of a particular export or batch workflow.

Try images that reflect your actual inventory before committing to a large batch. Inspect fine edges and details such as reflective surfaces, transparent packaging, thin handles, and irregular shapes. Look for leftover background, missing product edges, halos, or holes in the subject. If the result will be used on a marketplace, check that marketplace’s current official image guidance; an app’s product-photo examples do not prove compliance with any platform’s requirements.
