The Google Pixel 10’s most meaningful upgrades over the Pixel 9 are a newer Tensor chip, a dedicated 5x telephoto camera, a brighter display and built-in Qi2 magnets for magnetic charging accessories. Its battery also has greater rated capacity, but independent tests disagree on whether it lasts longer in real-world use. The upgrade makes the strongest case if you want optical zoom or magnetic charging; otherwise, the value depends on how much more the Pixel 10 costs where you live.
1. Tensor G5 replaces Tensor G4
Pixel 10 moves to Google’s Tensor G5 processor, replacing the Pixel 9’s Tensor G4. Google says G5 is made on a TSMC 3 nm process and claims it has an up to 60% more powerful TPU and a CPU that is 34% faster on average. Those are Google’s comparisons, published in 2025—not a guarantee that every app or everyday task will feel that much faster.
Tom’s Guide also reported higher CPU and graphics benchmark scores for Pixel 10 than Pixel 9 in its testing, while noting that some competing phones scored higher. The practical appeal is the newer processor generation and additional headroom for on-device AI features, rather than a promise of a particular speed increase for every owner.

Pixel 10 adds a rear telephoto camera with 5x optical reach, a camera type Pixel 9 does not have. Google lists Pixel 10’s rear cameras as a 48 MP wide, 13 MP ultrawide and 10.8 MP 5x telephoto; it also describes Super Zoom up to 20x.

Pixel 9 instead has a dual rear-camera setup: a 50 MP main camera and a 48 MP ultrawide. The key change is the dedicated telephoto lens, not a blanket increase in camera resolution. In fact, the listed main and ultrawide megapixel counts are lower on the standard Pixel 10. If you often photograph distant subjects, the added optical reach is the clearest camera reason to choose it.
3. The display gets brighter without changing size or refresh range
Both phones have a 6.3-inch display with a 60–120 Hz refresh range, so Pixel 10 is not a larger-screen or higher-refresh-rate upgrade. Its advantage is brightness. Tom’s Guide reported peak-brightness ratings of 3,000 nits for Pixel 10 and 2,700 nits for Pixel 9. In its own light-meter tests, it measured 2,330 nits on Pixel 10 and 1,769 nits on Pixel 9.

The first pair are rated peak figures; the second pair are results from Tom’s Guide’s testing in 2025. They are different kinds of measurements, so the lab readings should not be treated as manufacturer ratings. The improvement matters most for visibility in bright conditions.

Pixel 10 supports Qi2-certified wireless charging up to 15 W and has built-in magnetic alignment for compatible chargers and accessories. Google calls this system Pixelsnap and describes a range of magnetic accessories. Pixel 9 supports Qi-certified wireless charging, but it lacks Pixel 10’s integrated Pixelsnap Qi2 magnet system.

A compatible charger or stand is a separate purchase; it is not implied to be included with the phone. Check that an accessory is Qi2-certified and explicitly compatible with Pixel 10, and confirm its stated charging rate before buying.
5. Battery capacity increases, but test results on endurance conflict
Google lists typical battery capacity at 4,970 mAh for Pixel 10 and 4,700 mAh for Pixel 9 in specifications accessed in 2026. Capacity is a hardware specification, not a direct measure of how long a phone lasts between charges. Google’s “24+ hour battery life” statement is an estimate based on its own testing conditions, not a guaranteed result for every user.

Independent test results do not point in one direction. Tom’s Guide measured 13 hours 13 minutes for Pixel 10 in its continuous web-browsing test and reported better battery life than its Pixel 9 result. TechRadar’s Future Labs test, by contrast, reported that Pixel 10 showed no improvement and lasted a few minutes less than Pixel 9. These were different tests, so their results are not directly interchangeable. Your screen brightness, apps, connectivity and usage also affect endurance.
Is the Pixel 10 worth upgrading from the Pixel 9?
Start with the changes you will use and the actual local price difference. Pixel 10 is easiest to justify if you want the dedicated 5x telephoto camera or built-in Qi2 magnetic charging. A brighter screen and a newer processor may also matter to you, but the display keeps the same size and refresh range, and Google’s processor performance figures are company claims rather than guarantees of how much faster your own tasks will feel.

If you are satisfied with Pixel 9’s camera reach and charging setup, the case for replacing it is less compelling—particularly if Pixel 9 is substantially discounted. Compare current prices in your region; the U.S. launch price announced in 2025 is not a current quote.
