To activate a Lyca Mobile UK SIM, choose a physical SIM or eSIM, set it up on an unlocked compatible phone that supports that SIM type, then make a call, send an SMS, and/or use mobile data in the UK to check service. If you want to keep your existing number, activate Lyca first and then submit a number-transfer request with your PAC.
Choose the physical SIM or eSIM setup
Lyca Mobile UK offers two setup routes. Your choice depends on whether your phone supports eSIM and whether you want a physical card. The official guide does not establish any difference in service quality between the two types.
| Option | What you need | How you receive the activation details |
|---|---|---|
| Physical SIM | An unlocked, network-compatible smartphone | The SIM card supplied by Lyca |
| eSIM | A phone with eSIM support | A QR code sent in the order confirmation email |
Lyca says physical SIM delivery is expected within two working days and that an eSIM QR code is sent immediately in the order confirmation. These are the provider’s stated expectations, not guaranteed delivery times. Lyca Mobile UK port-in guide

eSIM
- Confirm that your phone supports eSIM.

Check that the service works
After setup, make a call, send an SMS, and/or use mobile data in the UK. Lyca’s privacy policy describes these actions as a way to check service and says to have sufficient account credit. It does not say that every customer must complete all three actions or buy a particular bundle before activation. Lyca Mobile UK privacy policy
Keep your existing number with a PAC
Activation and number transfer are separate steps: first get the Lyca service working, then request the transfer of your old number.
- Ask your current mobile provider for a PAC. Lyca states that a PAC is valid for 30 days.
- Activate your Lyca SIM or eSIM.
- Use Lyca’s Switch to Lyca process and provide your Lyca number, SIM ICCID and PAC.
- Find the ICCID on the physical SIM holder; for an eSIM, Lyca says it is usually in the QR-code confirmation email.
Check Lyca’s current transfer form and timing when you submit the request, as these details can change. Lyca Mobile UK port-in guide

If your Lyca SIM is not working
Lyca’s available instructions do not provide a complete failure-diagnosis flow. These basic checks are general troubleshooting suggestions, not steps Lyca confirms in its activation guide:
- For a physical SIM, check that it is seated correctly; for an eSIM, check that the profile was downloaded successfully.
- Confirm the phone is unlocked and compatible, and that it supports eSIM if that is the type you ordered.
- Restart the phone and try the service check again.
- If the service you are trying to use requires credit, check your balance. Lyca’s Quick Top Up page asks for your Lyca mobile number and offers card and other payment methods.
