The Samsung Galaxy M17 5G is the stronger fit if you want a sharper Super AMOLED display and more capable listed camera hardware, including optical image stabilization (OIS) and an ultrawide camera. The Galaxy M17e 5G trades screen resolution and camera features for a higher maximum refresh rate and a larger stated battery capacity. At launch in India, the M17e cost more in the 4GB tier, while the 6GB models launched at the same price.

Which display is better for your use?
Choose the M17 for resolution and AMOLED
The M17’s FHD+ Super AMOLED panel has a listed resolution of 1080 × 2340. That gives it a clear specification advantage for pixel detail over the M17e’s 720 × 1600 HD+ PLS LCD. Samsung lists the M17’s maximum refresh rate as 90 Hz.

Choose the M17e for a higher refresh-rate ceiling
The M17e supports up to 120 Hz, compared with the M17’s 90 Hz maximum. A higher refresh-rate ceiling can make supported scrolling and animations appear smoother, but the panel’s refresh-rate specification alone does not establish overall image quality. Samsung lists the M17e screen as PLS LCD rather than AMOLED.

How do the cameras differ?
M17: OIS and an ultrawide camera
The M17 has a 50MP main rear camera with OIS, a 5MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. OIS helps compensate for some camera movement; Samsung’s launch announcement described the feature as “No shake camera,” which is promotional language rather than a guarantee of shake-free photos or video. The ultrawide camera also gives the M17 a listed shooting option that the M17e does not have.
M17e: a simpler listed camera setup
The M17e has a 50MP main camera without OIS and a 2MP secondary rear camera. Its front camera is listed at 8MP, compared with 13MP on the M17. These resolution and hardware differences do not, by themselves, prove which phone takes better-looking photos or selfies.

Does the M17e last longer on a charge?
Samsung lists a typical battery capacity of 6000mAh for the M17e and 5000mAh for the M17. The M17e therefore has the larger stated capacity, but that figure is not a comparative battery-life result: actual runtime varies with usage and network conditions, and capacity alone cannot establish which phone lasts longer in everyday use.

What was the India launch-price difference?
The following are announced launch prices, not current street prices. Samsung’s M17 release described its 4GB model price as a net price inclusive of a special launch offer.

Which phone should you choose?
- Pick the Galaxy M17 5G if FHD+ resolution, Super AMOLED, OIS on the main camera, an ultrawide camera, or a lighter listed 6GB/128GB configuration matters most.
- Consider the Galaxy M17e 5G if you prioritize a 120 Hz maximum refresh rate or a larger stated battery capacity, and are comfortable with an HD+ LCD screen and a rear-camera system without OIS.
- Compare like-for-like prices before buying. At launch, the 6GB/128GB models were priced equally, while the 4GB/128GB M17e was ₹1,500 higher. Those historical figures do not indicate today’s best deal.
Software support and practical buying checks
Samsung announced six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates for both phone families. Samsung’s M17e product page lists its security-update period to 31 January 2032. Treat these as Samsung’s stated support plans, not promises of exact update release dates; update timing can vary.
