On the available benchmark aggregates, Dimensity 8500 leads Snapdragon 7s Gen 4—but this is not a controlled comparison of matching phones, and the official MediaTek materials reviewed call the chip Dimensity 8500, not Dimensity 8500 Ultra. Treat the scores as directional evidence. For a phone purchase, the handset’s cooling, battery, memory, software support and regional chipset configuration matter alongside the processor.
What is actually being compared?
The distinction in naming matters: Qualcomm’s official materials describe Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, while MediaTek’s official product information and January 15, 2026 announcement describe Dimensity 8500. The comparison page reporting the benchmark figures also compares Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 with Dimensity 8500. “Dimensity 8500 Ultra” appears in a secondary database’s device association, not in the official MediaTek materials reviewed. Check the exact model and regional SKU before assuming a phone uses that variant. MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 product information and NanoReview’s comparison are explicit about the names they use.
There is no controlled, independent test established here for the exact marketed Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 versus Dimensity 8500 Ultra pair. The comparison below therefore separates official platform capabilities from third-party aggregate scores rather than presenting either as a guaranteed phone-to-phone result.
How do the benchmark results compare?
NanoReview’s dynamic comparison page, accessed October 7, 2026, reports the following AnTuTu 11 aggregates and Geekbench 6 figures. Its samples may come from different phones and configurations, so they are not same-device tests.

What do the platform specifications show?
The following are platform-level specifications, not a promise that a particular handset implements every listed option. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 product information and product brief and MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 product information describe these configurations.
| Area | Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 | Dimensity 8500 | What it means for a phone buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| CPU | 64-bit Kryo; one prime core up to 2.7 GHz, three performance cores up to 2.4 GHz, and four efficiency cores up to 1.8 GHz. | Eight Cortex-A725 cores: one up to 3.4 GHz, three up to 3.2 GHz, and four up to 2.2 GHz. | Core labels and maximum clock speeds alone do not predict responsiveness or performance under sustained load. |
| GPU | Adreno; Qualcomm lists Vulkan 1.3 and select Snapdragon Elite Gaming features. | Mali-G720 MC8. | Game-specific performance and sustained thermal behavior depend on the handset. |
| Memory and storage support | LPDDR5 up to 3200 MHz or LPDDR4X up to 2133 MHz; UFS 3.1. | LPDDR5X, four-channel, up to 9600 Mbps; UFS 4 with MCQ. | These are supported options or ceilings. Confirm the memory and storage actually installed in the phone. |
| Wireless | 5G modem-RF, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4. | 5G-Advanced, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4. | Supported bands and regional connectivity depend on the handset and carrier configuration. |
| Camera, video and display support | Up to 200 MP photo capture, 4K HDR capture at 30 fps, and WFHD+ display up to 144 Hz. | Up to 320 MP sensor support, 4K capture at 60 fps, and WQHD+ display up to 144 Hz. | Maximum platform support does not specify a phone’s sensor, recording modes or screen resolution. |
Which one is better for gaming and demanding use?
The aggregate benchmark results give Dimensity 8500 the lead in the reported AnTuTu 11 total and Geekbench 6 single-core score. That is useful as an initial signal, but it does not settle gaming or sustained performance: the evidence does not provide a matched-phone gaming test, thermal comparison or energy-use measurement.

For a specific phone, prioritize independent tests of the exact model under sustained gaming, including frame-rate stability and temperature. Also check battery behavior, since a chip’s peak capability does not show how long a phone can maintain it. Qualcomm reports 7% improved CPU performance and 7% upgraded GPU rendering performance over the previous generation for Snapdragon 7s Gen 4. MediaTek reports a 25% increase in peak GPU performance and 20% lower GPU power consumption versus the prior generation for Dimensity 8500. These are each manufacturer’s own generational comparisons, not head-to-head results between these two chips.
What should you check before choosing a phone?
- Confirm the chipset and region. Verify the exact model number and local SKU rather than relying on a database’s chipset association. Cputronic associates Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 with Nothing Phone (4a) and Dimensity 8500 Ultra with Xiaomi Poco X8 Pro, but those are secondary-source associations that should be checked against the phone maker’s regional specifications.
- Look beyond the chip name. Compare the actual RAM and storage configuration, cooling design and battery capacity of the phones you are considering.
- Check the features the phone implements. Confirm its supported 5G bands, camera hardware and recording modes, display resolution and refresh rate; platform support alone does not guarantee a particular feature.
- Compare software support and price. These affect the useful life and value of a handset, and cannot be determined from the processor specifications or the aggregate benchmark figures.
Verdict: which chipset should you pick?
If you are choosing on the benchmark evidence alone, the available AnTuTu 11 aggregate and Geekbench 6 single-core result favor Dimensity 8500. If you are choosing a phone, decide between the actual handsets: verify their regional chipsets and compare sustained performance, battery behavior, memory and storage, connectivity, camera and display implementation, software support and price. The figures do not establish a universal winner for every device or a controlled result for a Dimensity 8500 Ultra-branded variant.
