For most individual users, NordPass is the tentative choice based on the evidence available: its free tier includes unlimited password storage and syncing, while paid plans add sharing and security checks. But the better fit depends on your devices, family needs, current checkout price and renewal terms, and how you weigh LastPass’s late-2022 incident. Neither product can be declared safer just by comparing encryption names.

Which one is better for your needs?
Choose NordPass if you want a useful free plan
NordPass’s official plan FAQ says Free includes unlimited password storage, automatic syncing, autosave, autofill, and multifactor authentication. That makes it a reasonable starting point if you need core password-manager functions without paying. Tom’s Guide’s October 2026 review reports that the free tier permits only one active device session at a time, so check whether that restriction fits your routine before relying on it across devices. NordPass says Premium adds password sharing, the ability to switch between devices without logging in, Password Health checks for weak, old, or reused passwords, and a Data Breach Scanner. Those additions are most relevant if you will use the checks or share credentials; they are not necessary merely to store and autofill passwords. Confirm the current plan terms before subscribing at NordPass plans.

Consider LastPass if its current plan and workflow fit better
LastPass’s official page describes Premium as personal password management across devices. The available evidence does not establish that it is categorically inferior in everyday use, and plan details can change. Its incident history is a material trust factor, however, so weigh it alongside the functions and terms that matter to you.

How should you compare their security?
Encryption names are not a verdict
LastPass says it uses AES-256 and PBKDF2 SHA-256 salted hashes, and states: “LastPass employs local, device-level encryption to ensure only you (with your master password) can decrypt and access your data.” This is the company’s description, not an independent audit conclusion. NordPass describes its encryption as XChaCha20-Poly1305-IETF and contrasts it with LastPass’s AES-GCM-256 description. Factor LastPass’s late-2022 incident into your trust decision
Security.org’s comparison, updated November 11, 2025, reports that attackers accessed LastPass customer vault data in late 2022. It says the data included encrypted passwords as well as unencrypted information such as email addresses and URLs. NordPass says users can import data from a previous password manager and sync across installed devices and browsers. In Security.org’s comparison, its reviewers said importing a CSV into NordPass went more smoothly than importing through LastPass’s web app, which they reported had trouble reading the file; they said the LastPass macOS app import worked. - Confirm that your devices and browser extensions are supported by the current versions.
- Check whether NordPass’s one-active-device-session free-tier restriction is workable for you.
- Export your existing passwords using your current manager’s supported method, then verify the imported entries before removing the old vault.
- Set up autofill and multifactor authentication on your devices after import, and test them before depending on the new setup.
What do NordPass and LastPass cost in 2026?
A reliable current checkout price is not established here for either product. NordPass’s official page did not expose dependable live price fields, and LastPass’s page showed placeholders. Prices may depend on country, billing term, discounts, renewal rate, and taxes, so check your own checkout total rather than relying on older comparison prices.
