Apple’s A19 and Google’s Tensor G4 are phone chips from different generations of devices, but the available evidence does not establish an overall performance winner. Apple publishes detailed A19 specifications for the iPhone 17; Google identifies Tensor G4 in Pixel 9-series phones. A Geekbench GPU comparison pairs the iPhone 17 with the Pixel 9, but that device-level result should not be treated as a verdict on every task or phone using either chip.
Which phones use A19 and Tensor G4?
The comparison is best understood through the phones that contain these integrated chips. Apple lists A19 in the iPhone 17. Google’s Pixel hardware specifications place Tensor G4 in the Pixel 9 generation and Tensor G5 in the Pixel 10 generation, so Tensor G4 should not be used as shorthand for the newest Pixel hardware. Google’s Pixel hardware specifications identify the chip by device generation.
Geekbench’s device listing also identifies Tensor G4 in the Pixel 9a. That association does not make its results interchangeable with those for a Pixel 9: benchmark performance belongs to a particular device implementation and test run, not just a chip name. Geekbench’s Android device listings provide device-level reference information.
A19 and Tensor G4 specifications
| Specification | Apple A19 | Google Tensor G4 |
|---|---|---|
| Device context | iPhone 17, according to Apple’s specifications | Pixel 9-series devices, according to Google’s hardware specifications |
| CPU configuration | Six cores: two performance cores and four efficiency cores, according to Apple | Not stated in the cited Google hardware specifications |
| GPU configuration | Five-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, according to Apple | Not stated in the cited Google hardware specifications |
| Neural processing | 16-core Neural Engine, according to Apple | Not stated in the cited Google hardware specifications |
| Ray tracing | Hardware-accelerated ray tracing, according to Apple | Not stated in the cited Google hardware specifications |
| Manufacturing process | Third-generation 3-nanometer technology, according to Apple | Not stated in the cited Google hardware specifications |
Apple’s iPhone 17 technical specifications provide the A19 configuration. Its iPhone 17 announcement says A19 is built using third-generation 3-nanometer technology. The cited Google page is a device-specification reference, not a full Tensor G4 specification sheet; missing values above are therefore not comparable from these sources.

What Apple’s A19 performance claims mean
Apple says the A19 six-core CPU is 1.5 times faster than the A15 Bionic in iPhone 13, and that the A19 five-core GPU is more than twice as fast as the A15 Bionic. These are Apple’s manufacturer comparisons against its earlier chip, not measurements against Tensor G4. They cannot be used to calculate an A19-versus-G4 advantage.
What the Geekbench GPU comparison shows
Geekbench’s version 7 GPU comparison lists an iPhone 17 with Apple A19 GPU and a Google Pixel 9 with Tensor G4 GPU. This is a third-party, device-level GPU comparison. Its scores reflect those phone implementations and benchmark submissions; one GPU test does not establish how the chips compare in CPU work, AI tasks, battery use, or sustained performance.

Geekbench’s comparison page is benchmark database material and may change as submissions or versions change. Read the device names and test version with any result rather than treating a score as a universal property of the chip.
Can you say which chip is faster overall?
Not from these sources alone. They provide Apple’s A19 configuration and A15-relative claims, Google’s mapping of Tensor G4 to Pixel 9-series phones, and a specific Geekbench GPU comparison. They do not provide matched CPU single-core and multi-core results, a broad set of same-version GPU tests, comparable on-device AI workloads, power measurements, or sustained thermal testing across the phones.

For a buying decision, compare the specific iPhone 17 and Pixel 9 models you are considering, including their software features, battery behavior, price, and the apps or workloads that matter to you. The chip labels alone do not settle those device-level trade-offs.
