There is no verified, controlled test here that establishes a universal speed winner between Google’s Tensor G4 and Apple’s A15 Bionic. The fairest comparison starts with the exact phone and A15 configuration, then checks results from the same benchmark version and workload. Apple publishes more detailed A15 core counts; Google’s Pixel specifications identify Tensor G4 but do not establish its CPU or GPU configuration.
What the published specifications show
Processor labels alone do not tell the whole story: A15 Bionic appears in iPhones with different GPU configurations, while Google’s Pixel specifications identify Tensor G4 without providing a comparable processor architecture breakdown.
| Chip and host device | CPU | GPU | Neural Engine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tensor G4 in Pixel devices, including the Pixel 9 family | Core count not stated on Google’s Pixel specifications page. | Configuration not stated on Google’s Pixel specifications page. | Not stated on Google’s Pixel specifications page. |
| A15 Bionic in iPhone 13 | 6 cores: 2 performance and 4 efficiency cores | 4 cores | 16 cores |
| A15 Bionic in iPhone 13 Pro | 6 cores | 5 cores | 16 cores |
Apple’s specifications distinguish the four-core GPU in iPhone 13 from the five-core GPU in iPhone 13 Pro. Those are device-specific A15 configurations, so an A15 result should name its host phone rather than treating every A15 iPhone as identical. Apple introduced iPhone 13 in 2021; see its iPhone 13 Pro announcement and iPhone 13 announcement.
Can benchmarks tell you which one is faster?
Only when the test conditions are comparable. Geekbench publishes individual Geekbench 6 submissions for the Pixel 9 with Tensor G4, but an individual result is not a matched comparison against an A15 iPhone. The available results do not establish a controlled Pixel 9-versus-iPhone test that isolates the chips.

Geekbench’s Pixel 9 Geekbench 6 result page identifies Geekbench 6 as a legacy benchmark and says results should be compared only with other Geekbench 6 results. Do not combine Geekbench 6 and Geekbench 7 scores as if they came from the same test. For a useful comparison, the record should specify:
- The exact host phones, such as Pixel 9 and iPhone 13 or iPhone 13 Pro.
- The benchmark and version, plus whether the result is CPU single-core, CPU multi-core, or a GPU workload.
- Software and other available test context. Device cooling, power limits, and software can affect a phone’s result.
Even then, the score describes those tested phones under that workload; it is not automatically a chip-only measurement or a prediction of every app’s performance. Cross-device figures without matched conditions are directional, not proof of a definitive ranking.

How to interpret Apple’s A15 launch claims
In its 2021 iPhone 13 announcement, Apple said the A15 CPU was “up to 50 percent faster than the competition” and its GPU was “up to 30 percent faster than the competition.” These are Apple’s launch claims, not independent measurements against Tensor G4. The same announcement reported 15.8 trillion operations per second for the Neural Engine; that is a vendor-reported capability figure, not a head-to-head benchmark. See Apple’s announcement.

Chip specifications and benchmark scores cannot settle which phone is the better buy. That decision also depends on the complete phones’ software, cameras, battery life, price, support, and availability, which require evidence beyond a processor comparison. Compare the particular Pixel and iPhone models you are considering, and treat benchmark results as one workload-specific data point rather than a verdict about the whole device.
