In ordinary Minecraft Bedrock gameplay, enable Show Coordinates and use the X and Z values to locate chunk edges: they fall at coordinate multiples of 16. The coordinate display does not draw border lines. The Bedrock Editor has a separate boundary-visualization setting, but it is not a regular gameplay toggle.
Find chunk edges in ordinary Bedrock gameplay
- Open the settings for the world you want to play in and enable Show Coordinates. Microsoft describes this as a world rule that displays your current coordinates; the exact menu labels can differ across PC, mobile, and console versions. Microsoft’s Bedrock command documentation identifies the
showCoordinatesrule, and its Bedrock guide directs world creators to turn on Show Coordinates in world settings. - Check the horizontal X and Z values. Y measures height, so it does not determine a horizontal chunk edge.
- Look for X or Z values divisible by 16: for example, …, -32, -16, 0, 16, 32, …. When X is on one of those values, you are on an X-direction edge; when Z is, you are on a Z-direction edge. If both are multiples of 16, you are at a chunk corner.
Chunk coordinates can be calculated from block coordinates as (floor(X/16), floor(Z/16)). Flooring matters at negative positions: for example, floor(-1/16) = -1, not 0. This coordinate method identifies the grid mathematically, but it does not create a visible overlay. The Minecraft Wiki’s chunk reference describes the coordinate rule and formula.

Which method should you use?
| Method | Where it works | What it provides | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Show Coordinates and multiples of 16 | Ordinary Bedrock gameplay | Built-in X and Z positions for locating edges and corners | Requires reading coordinates; there are no drawn border lines. |
| Show Chunk Boundries | Bedrock Editor | A visual display of lines between chunk areas | Editor setting, not a standard gameplay control. |
| Third-party resource-pack overlay | Depends on the pack and your Bedrock version and UI profile | May display borders and chunk coordinates | Compatibility and support depend on the publisher; it is not a native Minecraft setting. |
What the Bedrock Editor setting does
Microsoft’s Editor settings documentation describes Show Chunk Boundries as showing “the boundary lines between chunks (16×16 block areas).” The spelling above matches Microsoft’s displayed label. This setting belongs to the Editor settings pane; it is not available as a regular world-gameplay overlay. The 16×16 description refers to the horizontal area, not a chunk’s height. Microsoft Learn: Editor settings.
Third-party overlays and Java instructions
If you specifically want lines on screen during regular Bedrock play, a resource pack may offer them. For example, the Debug Screen Pro listing advertises chunk borders, chunk coordinates, and separate Classic and Pocket layouts. Those are publisher claims, not independent test results; check the listing’s version and UI-profile requirements against your own setup before installing it.
