To factory-reset a Kwikset Halo, remove it from the Kwikset app and forget it in your phone’s Bluetooth settings. Then hold the lock’s Program button while reinstalling its battery pack, wait for the beep and red LED cue, and complete the follow-up button press so the lock can run auto-handing.
Before you begin
Kwikset’s published procedure covers Halo, Aura, and Halo Touch, while its troubleshooting guide provides a Halo factory-reset sequence. Check the instructions for your exact model if its buttons or LED and beep cues differ; the available instructions do not establish that every model or hardware revision behaves identically. A factory reset erases lock settings, Bluetooth pairings, Wi-Fi settings, user associations, access codes, and event history, and resets handing. Kwikset notes that codes and event history may still appear in the app until you delete the lock from the app home. The procedure requires no special tool or consumable.

- Delete the lock from the app. In the Kwikset app, remove the lock from the home.
- Forget the Bluetooth device. Open your phone’s Bluetooth settings, select the lock, and choose Forget Device or the equivalent remove-device option.
- Remove the battery pack.
- Hold Program while reinstalling the battery pack. Keep holding the Program button for 30 seconds or until the lock beeps and its status LED flashes red.
- Release Program and confirm. Wait for the beeping to stop, then press and release Program once more.
- Let auto-handing finish. The LED flashes green and red as the lock begins learning the door orientation. The latch should retract and extend; Kwikset identifies that movement as confirmation that the reset is complete.
Kwikset’s troubleshooting guide says to repeat the reset steps if the reset is unsuccessful, continuing until the reset-stage LED flashes green and red. If the expected cues do not appear, or the controls differ from these instructions, consult the guide for your exact lock model rather than guessing at a button sequence.

Factory reset or network reset?
If your goal is only to change Wi-Fi, distinguish a factory reset from Kwikset’s separate network-reset procedure. The network reset is narrower: it resets Bluetooth pairings, Wi-Fi settings, and user associations. Kwikset’s instructions use the A button held for 10 seconds, followed by a Program-button confirmation within 10 seconds. A factory reset additionally removes access codes and event history and resets lock settings, including handing. Follow the instructions for the exact model before choosing either procedure. When a factory reset may be useful
Kwikset identifies changing lock ownership, losing the phone, and troubleshooting a new installation as reasons to factory-reset. Its troubleshooting guide also directs users to factory-reset and reactivate the lock when changing its Wi-Fi network.
