To enter Spectator Mode in Minecraft Bedrock, enable cheats for the world, then either choose Spectator under Personal Game Mode in World Settings or type /gamemode spectator. Enabling cheats permanently disables achievements in that world, even if you turn cheats off later.

Before you switch: cheats disable achievements

Enabling cheats permanently stops players from unlocking achievements in that world. Turning cheats off afterward does not restore achievement eligibility, so consider this consequence before changing the setting. Minecraft’s commands guide describes the rule for Bedrock single-player worlds.

Enable cheats and enter Spectator Mode

Minecraft’s Bedrock 1.19.50 release notes document Spectator Mode as a released feature with no experimental toggle required. Both the settings option and the command require cheats to be enabled.

  1. Enable cheats for the world. Open the world’s settings and, in the Game tab, turn on Allow Cheats. The official commands guide documents this setting for Bedrock single-player.
  2. Choose how to switch modes.
    • Menu: Open World Settings, find Personal Game Mode, and choose Spectator.
    • Command: Enter /gamemode spectator in the world.

Minecraft’s 1.19.50 release notes confirm both routes and the cheats requirement. Use the named mode in the command; the older numeric /gamemode 6 route was removed in Bedrock 1.19.30.

What Spectator Mode lets you do

  • Fly continuously, pass through blocks and entities, and see out of solid objects while inside them.
  • Move into new areas and generate chunks, but do not spawn mobs.
  • Avoid damage while in the mode.

What you cannot do as a spectator

  • Use items, interact with blocks or mobs, open your inventory, or use container interfaces such as chests and furnaces.
  • Use the usual full HUD: the crosshair, hotbar, XP, health, hunger, and armor displays are hidden.

Your inventory, health, and held items remain unchanged when you switch into or out of Spectator Mode. Bedrock’s early implementation lacked features such as mob view and speed control; the later release notes cited here do not establish that those features were added, so do not assume Java Edition behavior carries over.

Leave Spectator Mode

Choose another mode under Personal Game Mode in World Settings, or use the matching /gamemode command, such as /gamemode survival. Cheats must remain enabled to use the documented settings or command routes. The 1.19.50 release notes confirm that players can switch into and out of Spectator Mode using these controls.

Worlds, Realms, and servers

The official commands guide specifically explains enabling cheats for Bedrock single-player. It does not establish the exact permission flow for every Realm or multiplayer server. If you cannot change the world setting or run the command there, check the game’s current settings and the world or server’s permissions; the steps may depend on your access.

Version context

Spectator Mode began as an experimental feature in earlier Bedrock releases. In the 1.19.50 notes, Mojang says it is in the game without an experimental toggle. If your installed version shows different menu labels, use its current world settings as the guide; the cited procedure reflects the official documentation for that release.
