To heal during a battle in Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave, select a unit carrying a healing item, move it to a tile, then choose Items in the action menu. Select Vulnerary, press A, and choose Use. The Y button opens an inventory preview for inspecting items; it does not consume them.
How to use a healing item in battle
- Select the unit carrying the consumable.
- Move the unit to its intended position. Confirming a position—even if the unit stays where it is—opens the action menu, according to AllThings.How.
- Choose Items from the post-movement action menu.
- Highlight Vulnerary, press A, then select Use.
Plan the unit’s position before using the item: Gamer.org reports that using an item consumes that unit’s action for the turn.

Why can’t I use a Vulnerary from the Y menu?
The Y-button inventory view is for checking what a unit carries and inspecting item or weapon information. To consume a healing item, close that view and use the post-movement Items action instead. The menu sequence above is consistent across guides from AllThings.How, Gamer.org, and BO3.GG; Nintendo’s product page describes the game as strategic turn-based combat but does not document these specific controls: Nintendo.

Which items heal HP, and which treat poison?
The Games Wiki’s community-maintained item reference, updated in September 2026, lists these effects and uses. Nintendo has not published an item list in the sources cited here, so treat the figures as game-reference data and check the item description in your current build if exact values matter.

For a straightforward HP restore, the cited reference distinguishes Vulnerary and Concoction by their reported recovery amounts and remaining uses. Antitoxin addresses poison rather than HP. Pure Water’s HP-healing effect is not established by the references cited here.

BO3.GG reports that dungeon Rest Spots let players cook with gathered ingredients. According to that guide, cooked food restores HP and Magic, but not LP, and the amount of HP restored depends on the ingredients’ HP values. This is a single-guide report, so verify the result at a Rest Spot in your game rather than assuming every recipe follows the same rule.
