Connect the DISH receiver’s HDMI OUT to an available HDMI IN on the Samsung TV, then select that HDMI input on the TV. The instructions below cover a direct connection when the receiver and TV are in the same room; older equipment and separate-room installations may use different wiring.
Connect the DISH receiver to the TV
- Turn off both devices. Samsung recommends switching off the TV and connected cable or satellite box before connecting them. Samsung’s connection instructions show that ports and menus vary by TV model.
- Find the correct ports. Look for HDMI OUT on the DISH receiver and an available HDMI IN on the Samsung TV. The TV’s HDMI ports may be on its side or back, depending on the model. DISH’s illustrated receiver setup includes HDMI; check the labels on your actual equipment. DISH equipment support
- Connect an HDMI cable. Plug one end into the receiver’s HDMI OUT and the other into the chosen TV HDMI IN. Note the input number, such as HDMI 1 or HDMI 2. If you do not already have a suitable cable, Samsung recommends trying a high-speed, high-quality HDMI cable when troubleshooting. The instructions do not establish a required cable length or certification for every setup. Samsung connection and troubleshooting steps
- Turn on the receiver and TV. The Samsung TV may detect the receiver and switch to it automatically. If the picture does not appear, open the TV’s source menu—often labeled Source—and select the HDMI input you used. For example, a receiver connected to HDMI 2 requires the TV source for HDMI 2. The exact menu path varies by model.
Use the DISH remote to navigate DISH channels and receiver menus once the picture appears. The TV input selection is a Samsung TV function; it is separate from the receiver’s controls.

If there is no picture
Work through these checks in order, changing one thing at a time so you can identify what fixes the connection.
- Check power. Confirm that the TV is on and that the DISH receiver is powered on; check its front-panel power indicator. DISH troubleshooting support
- Reseat the cable. Unplug and firmly reconnect the HDMI cable at both the receiver and TV.
- Verify the selected source. Make sure the TV is set to the exact HDMI input where the cable is connected. The HDMI number printed beside the TV port should match the source you select.
- Try another HDMI port. Move the cable to a different HDMI IN on the TV, then select that port’s source. If the receiver works there, the original input may be the problem.
- Try another HDMI cable. Samsung recommends testing another high-speed, high-quality cable. This is a troubleshooting check, not proof that a particular cable specification is necessary for every receiver and TV combination. Samsung troubleshooting instructions
- Consider the wiring arrangement. If the receiver and TV are in different rooms, the TV may be connected through an existing coaxial or wall connection rather than by a direct HDMI cable. DISH documents separate TV2 procedures for some such installations; follow the directions for the equipment and wiring you actually have. Do not treat channels 60 or 73 mentioned for specific TV2 scenarios as general HDMI input settings. DISH replacement-TV support
- Escalate if needed. If other HDMI devices work on the Samsung TV but the DISH receiver still does not after these checks, DISH advises contacting the TV manufacturer for setup help and then contacting DISH if needed. DISH troubleshooting support
What if one device has no HDMI port?
HDMI is the straightforward option only when both devices have compatible HDMI ports. DISH’s illustrated receiver setup also shows RCA as an alternative, while Samsung notes that some component-video connections may need an adapter on TVs without component inputs. These are not interchangeable recommendations: first identify the exact output on the receiver and the inputs supported by the TV, then follow the instructions for that equipment. Do not buy or connect an adapter based only on the device brands. DISH equipment support and Samsung connection instructions

Pair the DISH remote with the TV only if you want TV controls
Remote pairing is optional and does not establish the video connection. After the picture works, you can set the DISH remote to control supported TV functions. DISH’s current instructions say to press HOME twice or MENU once, depending on the remote, then select Settings > Remote Control, choose the TV under Devices, and open Pairing Wizard. Follow the prompts on screen; menu wording may vary by remote and receiver. DISH remote support

| Situation | What to do | What to avoid assuming |
|---|---|---|
| Receiver and TV in the same room | Connect receiver HDMI OUT to TV HDMI IN, then select the matching HDMI source. | Do not assume the TV has switched to the right source automatically. |
| TV in a different room or already wired as a secondary TV | Identify the existing wall, coax, or TV2 arrangement and use the applicable DISH instructions. | Do not assume a direct HDMI cable is installed or tune to a TV2 channel as though it were an HDMI input. |
Samsung and DISH menu labels, port availability, and setup steps differ across model families and regions. Check the labels and instructions for your exact TV and receiver if a port or menu option described here is missing.
