If X (formerly Twitter) will not load or a feature or login is failing in Chrome, start by checking your connection and opening x.com in an Incognito window. Then update Chrome, test extensions one at a time, and clear X’s site data only if needed. The right fix depends on what changes during those checks; no single step is guaranteed to resolve every problem.
First, work out whether the problem is X or Chrome
Try opening another website in Chrome. If other sites also fail, check your internet connection before changing X or Chrome settings. If only x.com has trouble, continue with the checks below. The official guidance cited here does not establish whether X is experiencing an outage when you encounter a problem, so these steps cannot confirm outage status.
If you use a VPN, temporarily disconnect it and retry x.com. If that changes the result, X advises contacting your VPN provider; the check alone does not establish that a VPN is the cause. X’s browser troubleshooting guidance recommends checking connection issues and trying private browsing.

Try X in a Chrome Incognito window
Open a Chrome Incognito window and visit x.com. If X works there but not in your regular window, compare the regular Chrome setup by testing extensions and, if needed, clearing X’s site data. Incognito success narrows the investigation but does not prove one particular cause.

Update Chrome and your operating system
X says it officially supports browser versions released within the past year, including Chrome, and recommends keeping both the browser and operating system up to date. An older browser may prevent access. X also notes that extensions that modify the browser’s user agent can cause problems. See X’s supported-browser guidance.
Test extensions and blocking software individually
X states that “Some browser extensions can interfere with actions performed on x.com.” Temporarily disable extensions rather than deleting them, then retry X. If that helps, re-enable extensions one at a time and test again to identify whether one changes the result. You can use the same approach with ad blockers or other additional software. If access returns when a particular extension or program is off, review its settings to see whether it is blocking or changing X traffic. X recommends testing extensions and additional software.

Clear X’s cache and cookies if the other checks fail
X says clearing browser cache and cookies may resolve website problems. In Chrome, open the browser’s settings and use its privacy controls to clear browsing data; the exact labels can vary by Chrome version. If Chrome offers a choice of data types, clearing cookies can sign you out of websites. Cookies also support X functionality, and X says some login flows require cookies to be accepted. X’s browser guidance recommends clearing cache and cookies; its cookie information explains their role.

- Make sure your browser accepts cookies.
- Clear the browser cache.
- Try signing in from another browser or computer to see whether the issue is limited to this Chrome setup.
If X says “Locked out!”
X says this lock clears on its own after about an hour. While waiting, do not request more password resets. If the listed login steps do not resolve the problem, contact X Support through its login help page.

X notes that connected third-party apps can sometimes cause account problems. In your X account’s Apps settings, review connected apps and revoke access for connections you no longer need. This is a possible account-level check, not a guaranteed fix for a Chrome loading problem. X’s troubleshooting guidance describes reviewing app connections.

Match the next step to what changed
- No websites load: Check the internet connection before changing X settings.
- X works in Incognito only: Focus on extensions, blocking software, and X’s site data in the regular Chrome window.
- Other websites work but X does not: Check Chrome’s support status, extensions, and cache and cookies. These checks do not establish whether X has an outage.
- Only sign-in fails: Use X’s login steps, including accepting cookies and trying another browser or computer.
- A VPN check changes access: Contact the VPN provider, as X advises.
