HostGator Website Builder is not available to new customers. HostGator says it no longer accepts new signups for the builder, although existing customers should see no change to their service. If you are starting a website now, this product is not an option to choose; HostGator’s help documentation points users to WordPress instead.
Can you still sign up for HostGator Website Builder?
No. HostGator’s current Website Builder help page says the service is no longer offered for new signups. The same notice says existing customers will see no change to their product or service. HostGator does not display a publication date on the page, so check its help center directly if you need to confirm the status before making a decision.
For existing users, HostGator also says that upgrading or downgrading Website Builder plans is no longer available. Its plan-management guidance points users to WordPress to create a website.

HostGator described Website Builder as a point-and-click editor for making a site without coding or web-development experience. Its published feature list included more than 100 mobile-friendly templates, drag-and-drop editing, pre-built sections and pages, SEO tools, social media links, and an image library. These are the provider’s feature descriptions, not an independent assessment of the editor’s quality or performance.

How the tiers differed
| Plan | Page capacity | Documented features |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | Up to six pages | Core visual editor features; no ecommerce shopping cart listed |
| Professional | Unlimited pages | Google Analytics integration, HD video embeds, revision history, and custom favicon |
| Business | Unlimited pages | Professional features plus ecommerce shopping cart, inventory management, multiple payment processors, coupon codes, and Facebook integration |
HostGator’s feature chart is the source for these plan descriptions. It establishes what the company listed, but not how well those features worked for customers.
What the store required
HostGator says the Store feature was available only on the Business plan. Its store setup instructions say users needed a merchant account to complete payment-processing setup. The listed store tools included inventory management and multiple payment processors; the documentation does not establish current terms for any existing store account.

Who was the builder designed for?
Based on HostGator’s feature list, the builder was aimed at people who wanted to assemble a straightforward site visually rather than build it with code. Basic had a six-page cap and no listed cart. Professional lifted the page limit and added analytics, video, revision history, and favicon features. Business was the tier HostGator documented for users who needed store and inventory tools.

The company’s own documentation describes WordPress as an available route for creating a site, and its overview of Website Builder distinguishes the visual drag-and-drop builder from WordPress as a content management system.

What to check when choosing a current alternative
HostGator’s documentation does not establish how its former builder compares with currently available services, so make a fresh comparison around the needs of your project rather than relying on old plan descriptions. Check these points before signing up:
- Availability: Confirm that new accounts are currently accepted in your region.
- Hosting: Find out whether hosting is included or must be arranged separately.
- Design flexibility: Check whether the editor and page structure can support the site you intend to build.
- Online sales: Verify that the service supports the payment methods, inventory, and store functions you need.
- Portability: Look for documented export and migration options so you understand what happens if you move later.
- Total cost: Compare renewal pricing and contract terms, not only the initial offer.
- Technical effort: Consider how much setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting you are prepared to handle.
HostGator’s pages do not establish the former builder’s export capabilities, migration difficulty, comparative value, or real-world customer experience. Do not assume those details from its feature chart.
