You can download Canon printer software without a CD. On Canon USA’s Software & Drivers portal, search for the exact printer model, select the correct operating system and version, then download and run the compatible driver or software. The files offered and setup steps depend on the model and computer.
Find the correct Canon download
- Open Canon USA’s Software & Drivers portal and search for the printer’s exact model name. Choose the matching result; Canon recommends using the model name printed on the device.
- On the model’s support page, check the detected operating system and version. Change them if they are incorrect. Canon’s available downloads vary by model and operating system.
- Choose the file for the function you need. The printer driver is the main item for printing. Scan utilities and other software are optional and model-dependent; firmware and manuals are separate download types, not prerequisites for ordinary driver installation. If the list appears incomplete, select “Load More” if that option is available.
- Select the relevant file’s Download control and save it to your computer.

Install the download and connect the printer
On Windows
Open the downloaded .exe file and follow the installer prompts. Connect the printer by USB, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet when requested, if the model supports that connection.

Open the downloaded .dmg file, then run the .pkg installer inside it. Follow the prompts to finish setup and connect the printer using a supported method.

Some PIXMA TS, TR, and CanoScan models use AirPrint for printing and scanning on Mac, so a separate Mac driver may not be offered. This does not apply to every Canon printer; check the support page for your exact model.
Confirm that setup worked
- Print a test page to check printing.
- If you installed scan software, open it and check that the scanner is detected.
- Check firmware only if you downloaded a firmware file; firmware is not required for a standard driver installation.
Fix common download and setup problems
No driver appears
Recheck the exact model and selected operating system and version. Canon’s download list is model- and OS-specific, and a separate driver may not be available for every platform.

The Mac download list has no driver
Check whether your specific PIXMA TS, TR, or CanoScan model uses AirPrint for Mac printing and scanning. Confirm the supported setup on that model’s Canon page rather than assuming another model’s options apply.

The installer fails
On Windows, Canon advises removing older drivers for the product before installing the new one. If installation still fails, try an account with administrator privileges. On macOS, use an account with the necessary privileges.

The printer is not detected
- USB: Make sure the printer is powered on and try a different USB port directly on the computer. A cable is needed only if you choose USB and do not already have a suitable one; check the printer’s ports and instructions for compatibility.
- Wi-Fi or Ethernet: Check that the printer and computer are connected to the network as required by the model. Security software may block ports used by the printer, so review its settings if network detection fails.
