To stop HDMI devices from controlling your Samsung TV, turn off Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC): press Home, then open Settings → All Settings → Connection → External Device Manager → Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) and switch it off. On older models, External Device Manager may be under General. If the TV still changes inputs on its own, some models have a separate automatic HDMI switching control.

Turn off Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC)

  1. Press the Home button on the remote.
  2. Open Settings → All Settings → Connection → External Device Manager → Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC).
  3. Select Anynet+ to turn it off.

Samsung calls HDMI-CEC Anynet+. It lets compatible HDMI devices communicate with the TV, including controlling devices with the TV remote, changing inputs, and turning on the TV when a connected device starts. Menu locations can differ by model and software version; on some older Samsung TVs, look under General → External Device Manager. If the option is missing, consult the manual or support page for your exact model and check for a TV software update. Samsung’s Anynet+ guide describes the feature and menu options.

If the TV still switches inputs automatically

Turning off Anynet+ disables HDMI-CEC generally. Samsung US documents a separate automatic HDMI switching control for some models, which may require a TV software update. Samsung describes these model-specific remote sequences:

  • IR remote: Press Mute, 7, 2, 9, Exit.
  • Smart Remote: First make sure the TV source is selected, then press Mute, Volume Down, Channel Down, Mute.

No on-screen confirmation appears. To check whether the change helped, turn on a connected HDMI device and see whether the TV switches inputs. These key sequences are not a universal setting for all Samsung TVs. See Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance for a TV that switches sources by itself and follow the instructions for your model.

What changes when you turn Anynet+ off?

Compatible devices will no longer use HDMI-CEC to control the TV or trigger its related automatic power and input behavior. HDMI picture and sound still work: disabling CEC does not disable the HDMI connection itself. Samsung Electronics Service Korea confirms that video and audio transmission remain available with HDMI-CEC off. Samsung Electronics Service Korea’s HDMI-CEC guidance explains this distinction.

What to check if the problem continues

  • Update the connected device. Samsung says an external device can send an erroneous signal that makes the TV switch sources, even while the device is not in use. Update its firmware; if the issue remains, contact its manufacturer. See Samsung’s source-switching troubleshooting steps.
  • Confirm which behavior you want to stop. If the TV’s remote no longer controls connected devices or the TV no longer responds to their power actions, that is the expected effect of disabling Anynet+. If only the input keeps changing, check whether your model supports Samsung’s separate automatic HDMI switching control.
  • Use model-specific instructions. Samsung’s menu paths and remote-code guidance vary by model and software. Check the exact model’s manual or support page rather than assuming every TV supports the same control.
