Fitbit Versa 4 can work with a Samsung or Huawei phone if the phone meets Google Health’s requirements and can install the app. Google lists Android 11 or later as the minimum for Android, but that is not a guarantee for every phone model. Huawei users should check especially carefully: Google names the P8 Lite, P9 Lite, and P20 Lite as devices that may have compatibility issues.
What the phone needs to run
Google’s setup requirements list Android 11 or later for the Google Health app; iPhone users need iOS 16.4 or later. A Google Account is also required. The Android app is distributed through Google Play, so meeting the OS minimum is necessary but does not guarantee that every handset, regional software build, or app-store configuration will work. Fitbit account users needed to move to a Google Account beginning May 19, 2026, to access Google Health, according to Google’s setup requirements. Google’s terms were last modified on that date; see Google Health Additional Terms of Service.

Google’s cited compatibility guidance does not identify a Samsung-specific exclusion or certify every Samsung model. A Samsung phone is a plausible match if it runs Android 11 or later and can install the current Google Health app from an official app store. Check the phone’s software version and app availability rather than relying on the Samsung name alone.

Huawei phones: verify app availability and model
Google specifically says the Huawei P8 Lite, Huawei P9 Lite, and Huawei P20 Lite may have compatibility issues even when they meet the stated system requirements. That is a warning about possible issues, not a claim that every unit fails. Google also names the Xiaomi Mi 6 in the same warning. The warning appears in Google’s setup requirements.
Do not assume that every other Huawei phone is supported—or that it is unsupported. Google’s cited materials do not establish whether Google Health is available on Huawei phones without Google Play services, or provide a separate rule for HMS or HarmonyOS. Confirm that your exact phone can obtain the official Google Health app before counting on Versa 4 setup; the cited guidance does not establish an alternative installation route if it cannot.

How to set up and sync Versa 4
- Check compatibility first. Confirm that the phone runs Android 11 or later and can install Google Health from its official app store.
- Use a Google Account. Sign in to one or create one for Google Health.
- Prepare the watch. Charge and turn on the Versa 4.
- Pair from the app. Open Google Health and follow its setup instructions to connect the watch. Use the app-guided process rather than trying to complete setup only in the phone’s Bluetooth settings. Google’s Versa 4 setup guide covers getting started.
- Leave Bluetooth enabled. The watch syncs with the phone app over Bluetooth. Google’s Android app guidance explains using Google Health on an Android phone.
If Versa 4 will not sync or send notifications
Check that Bluetooth is on, Google Health has the permissions it requests, background data is allowed, and the phone’s battery settings are not restricting the app. Google says background operation supports automatic syncing, connected GPS, and phone notifications. The names and locations of Android settings vary by phone, so use the phone maker’s instructions if you cannot find a permission or battery control.

- If the app cannot be installed, recheck the phone’s Android version and official app-store availability.
- If pairing does not complete, restart the app-guided setup and make sure Bluetooth remains enabled.
- If syncing or notifications stop when the app is not open, review background-data and battery restrictions for Google Health.
