To transfer files between a phone and computer without a cable, choose a method that supports both devices: use Google Quick Share for Android and most Windows PCs, AirDrop for nearby Apple devices, or cloud storage such as iCloud Drive when you want documents available across devices. Android-to-Apple Quick Share also works on selected Android models; if yours is not supported, Google offers a QR-code download option.
Choose a wireless method for your devices
Wireless sharing usually means either a direct transfer between nearby devices or storing files online so you can access them later. A nearby transfer does not create an ongoing synced copy; cloud access requires an account and internet connection. The right choice depends on the operating systems, supported models, whether the devices are together, and whether you need a one-time copy or continuing access.
| Device pair or goal | Method | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Android phone and Windows PC | Google Quick Share for Windows | Install the Windows app and keep devices nearby. Google’s app is intended for non-Samsung PCs; Samsung PC owners should use Samsung’s Quick Share app. Google Quick Share for Windows |
| Supported Android phone and iPhone, iPad, or Mac nearby | Quick Share interoperability with AirDrop | Availability depends on the Android model. The Apple recipient sets AirDrop to “Everyone for 10 minutes” and accepts the transfer. Google’s supported-device and setup instructions |
| Android phone to Apple device when direct sharing is unavailable | Quick Share QR-code delivery | Both devices need internet access. The recipient scans a code and downloads the files in a browser; files are uploaded to Google servers and available for 24 hours. Google Quick Share help |
| iPhone and Mac or PC, for documents you want to access across devices | iCloud Drive | This is a cloud route, not a direct nearby transfer. It requires an Apple account and internet access. Apple’s file-sharing guidance |
| Nearby Apple devices | AirDrop | Apple documents AirDrop for sharing photos, videos, documents, and more with nearby Apple devices. Apple’s file-sharing guidance |
Transfer files between Android and Windows with Quick Share
Google says Quick Share is already installed on Android 6 and later. The Windows app supports 64-bit Windows 10 and later, or Windows 11 and later on ARM-based devices. Google’s version is intended for non-Samsung PCs; use Samsung’s Quick Share app on a Samsung PC. Confirm the current requirements on Google’s Quick Share for Windows page.

- On the phone, check the incoming transfer and accept it. Wait for the transfer to finish.
Send from Android to Windows
- Open Quick Share on the Android phone and choose the files you want to send.
- Set the phone’s device visibility as needed, select the nearby PC, and confirm the correct device name.
- Accept the incoming request on the PC if prompted, then wait for completion.
Google says Quick Share transfers are end-to-end encrypted and that recipients confirm incoming transfers from other users. Keep visibility limited to the setting you need, verify the recipient name before sending, and return visibility to your preferred setting afterward. Google Quick Share guidance

Send from Android to an Apple device
Quick Share interoperability with AirDrop is available only on selected Android models, not every Android phone. Google’s support page lists Pixel 8a or later and selected models from Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, Honor, Transsion, and Motorola; check its live model list before relying on direct sharing. Google’s supported-device list
- On the iPhone, iPad, or Mac, set AirDrop receiving visibility to “Everyone for 10 minutes.”
- On the Android phone, open Quick Share, select the files, and choose the nearby Apple device.
- Accept the AirDrop notification on the Apple device and wait for the files to arrive.

Use a QR code if direct sharing is unavailable
Google’s Quick Share QR option provides a browser-download fallback for sending to Apple devices. The sender creates the QR code, and the recipient scans it and downloads the files. Both devices need internet access; when Wi-Fi is not being used, mobile data charges may apply. Google says the files are uploaded to its servers, end-to-end encrypted, not counted against personal Google Drive storage, and available for 24 hours. Its published limits are up to 10 GB sent to Apple devices every 24 hours, up to 1,000 files per session, and up to 20 Apple-device recipients at once. Google Quick Share help
Use iCloud Drive or AirDrop from an iPhone
For documents you want available on an iPhone and a Mac or PC, Apple identifies iCloud Drive as a wireless access route. Because it uses cloud storage, you need an Apple account and internet access; it is not the same as sending a file directly to a nearby computer. Follow Apple’s instructions for the devices and software you use: Apple Support: file sharing and iCloud Drive.

For a nearby Apple-to-Apple transfer, use AirDrop. Apple also describes Handoff and iPhone Mirroring for supported continuity workflows, but Handoff is for continuing supported app activity, not a general-purpose file manager. Apple’s Finder File Sharing instructions on the same support page require a USB connection, so that particular route does not meet a cable-free requirement. Apple Support

Check these details before sending
- Confirm compatibility: Android-to-Apple interoperability depends on the phone model; Android-to-Windows Quick Share has app and operating-system requirements.
- Check visibility and approvals: Nearby transfers may require a device to be discoverable and the recipient to accept the request. Use the intended device name.
- Know whether the route uses the internet: Nearby Quick Share and AirDrop are proximity-based; iCloud Drive and QR-code downloads use internet access.
- Pick the right outcome: Use nearby sharing for a one-time transfer between devices together. Use cloud access when you need to retrieve documents later or the devices are not together.
- Do not assume a speed advantage: The cited official guidance does not provide comparable speed measurements across these methods.
