To make game audio quieter while you’re in a PS5 Discord call, open the call’s voice chat card in Control Center and adjust Audio Balance. It balances Discord voices against other console audio, but PlayStation does not guarantee that it can completely mute either source on every setup.
If by “game sound” you mean people talking in the game’s own voice channel, use Disable Game Chat Audio instead. That setting silences game chat—not the game’s music or sound effects.
Turn down game audio relative to Discord
- While the Discord call is active, press the PS button to open Control Center.
- Select the active Discord voice chat card.
- Choose Audio Balance, then adjust the mix between Discord voice chat and other console audio. PlayStation describes the control as a way to balance those sources, not as a guaranteed full mute. PlayStation’s Discord on PS5 guide documents this control.
Use this when you want to hear Discord more clearly without turning off all console sound. If Discord voices are too loud instead, adjust the balance in the opposite direction.

Mute people speaking in a game’s voice chat
If the unwanted voices are coming from the game’s own voice channel, open Control Center > Sound and select Disable Game Chat Audio. This applies to game-chat audio only; it does not mute music, sound effects, or other game audio. PlayStation’s audio-output guidance describes the setting.

What each PS5 audio control affects

Change the output device or overall volume
If sound is going to the wrong place, or you need to change the overall level rather than the game-to-chat mix, use Settings > Sound > Audio Output to choose an output device or headphone output. For overall headphone or controller-speaker level, go to Settings > Sound > Volume. These options affect output or overall volume; PlayStation does not describe them as ways to mute game audio while keeping Discord audible.

Optional: adjust chat and game audio on a PULSE 3D headset
The PlayStation PULSE 3D wireless headset has dedicated CHAT/GAME buttons for adjusting relative chat and game volume. Pressing both buttons together resets the relative level. This control is specific to that headset model; other headsets may not have the same buttons. See the PULSE 3D wireless headset manual.
Choose the control for the sound you mean
- Game music or effects are overpowering Discord: adjust Audio Balance on the Discord voice chat card.
- Players are talking through the game’s voice channel: select Disable Game Chat Audio in Control Center > Sound.
- You want to silence Discord callers: use Mute All on the Discord voice chat card.
- You want to keep console audio audible: avoid the controller MUTE button, which turns off sound output to all speakers as well as muting the microphone.
