Samsung DeX works on selected Galaxy tablets, but support depends on how you want to use it. Some models run DeX directly on the tablet screen; others also connect to an external display by cable or wirelessly. Samsung’s US compatibility guide lists Tab S11 tablets and Tab A11+ among supported families, while excluding several FE and Lite models from external-display features. Check the exact model and region before choosing a tablet or buying a display adapter.
Which Samsung tablets have DeX?
Samsung’s US support guide divides tablet compatibility by DeX mode. The lists below reflect Samsung’s US guidance; they are not a universal list of every regional model or SKU. Samsung Australia also cautions that supported functions vary by device and that its overview applies to Australian products. Samsung Australia’s DeX overview makes that regional scope explicit.

Can you use Samsung DeX without a monitor?
Yes, on a tablet that supports standalone DeX. It runs a desktop-like interface directly on the tablet screen; a TV or monitor is not required. Open Quick Settings and tap Samsung DeX. You can interact using the touchscreen or S Pen, or connect a keyboard cover, USB keyboard and mouse, or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

Does the Galaxy Tab S10 FE support HDMI out?
No. Samsung’s US tablet compatibility notes exclude both the Galaxy Tab S10 FE and Tab S10 FE+ from HDMI output, and also from wireless DeX. The guide lists those FE tablets as supporting DeX on the tablet screen, so lack of external-display DeX does not mean all DeX features are absent. By contrast, Samsung specifically excludes the Tab S10 Lite from standalone, wired, and wireless DeX.
Do not infer video-out support from a family name or USB-C port alone. Verify the exact model’s external-display support before buying a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or cable.

How to connect a Galaxy tablet to a display
Use DeX on the tablet itself
- Open Quick Settings and tap Samsung DeX on a supported tablet.
- Use the touchscreen or S Pen, or pair or connect a keyboard and mouse if you want desktop-style input.
Connect by cable
- Confirm the exact tablet supports wired DeX and HDMI output.
- Connect the tablet’s USB-C port to the monitor or TV’s HDMI input with a compatible DeX/HDMI cable or adapter.
- Unlock the tablet if prompted. If the display initially mirrors the tablet, select DeX.
Connect wirelessly
- On a tablet with wireless DeX support, open Settings → Connected devices → Samsung DeX → Connect wirelessly.
- Select a compatible TV or smart monitor and approve the connection.
- Keep the tablet and display close to help reduce stuttering or lag.
Samsung says a touchpad is available for DeX controls, but some gestures, including two-finger pinch-to-zoom, are not supported. DeX Pad and DeX Station are not supported on devices running Android 16 and One UI 8, so they are not a current default dock choice.

Samsung documents a newer DeX experience for eligible Galaxy Tabs running Android 16 with One UI 8.0 or higher. In this version, opening an app in pop-up view from the Home screen can enter the desktop workspace. You can move and resize multiple app windows and create up to four workspaces. This Home-screen workflow is distinct from the Quick Settings route for starting DeX on the tablet screen. Availability depends on the exact tablet and software version.

How to choose a DeX-capable tablet
Start with the screen you want DeX to use, rather than assuming every tablet in a series supports every mode:
- For a monitor-free setup: choose a model listed for standalone DeX.
- For a wired monitor or TV: confirm wired DeX and HDMI output for the exact model before selecting an adapter.
- For a cable-free display: confirm wireless DeX support and that the TV or monitor is compatible.
- For desktop-style input: consider a keyboard cover or USB/Bluetooth keyboard and mouse; these are optional, not prerequisites for using DeX.
- Before purchase: check the precise model, software version, and region. Feature lists and accessory compatibility can differ.
Samsung’s current US guide includes Tab S11 tablets and Tab A11+ among the supported families, but the right choice still depends on the DeX mode you need. The official support material establishes compatibility and setup, not a global price or inventory comparison.
