To block spam calls on a Samsung Galaxy, open the Phone app, go to More options (three dots) > Settings > Caller ID and spam protection, then enable Block spam and scam calls. Choose whether to block all calls the service identifies as spam or scam, or only high-risk scam calls. The setting can reduce interruptions, but it is not a guarantee that every unwanted call will be caught.
Turn on Caller ID and spam protection

Open the Samsung Phone app and tap More options (the three vertical dots).

Tap Settings, then open Caller ID and spam protection.

Turn on the feature. If prompted, review and accept the terms and privacy notice.

Enable Block spam and scam calls, then select the blocking level that suits you.
Samsung’s Galaxy call-settings instructions describe these controls. Labels and availability can vary by carrier and software version; Samsung’s US Smart Call support page also says the feature may not be available on every carrier or model.

Choose how aggressively to block spam calls
| Setting | What it does | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Block all spam and scam calls | Blocks all calls the service identifies as spam or scam. | Choose this if reducing unwanted interruptions matters more than receiving every call that might be incorrectly identified. |
| Only block high-risk scam calls | Blocks high-risk scam calls while allowing less-severe spam calls through. | Choose this if you want a narrower filter and are willing to receive some spam calls. |
Samsung documents what each choice blocks, but does not publish comparative accuracy or effectiveness measurements in these support instructions. Neither option guarantees that a legitimate call will never be flagged or that every spam call will be stopped.
Should you block calls from unknown numbers?
Block calls from unknown numbers is a separate control from spam identification. To find it, go to Phone > More options > Settings > Block numbers. Use it only if you want a broader block: a wanted call from a number you do not recognize may be affected. You can also block a particular number or choose one from Recents, Messages, or Contacts, as described in Samsung’s call-settings guide.

Block or report a call that gets through
If a suspected spam call still arrives, Samsung says you can block or report the number during or after the call. When reporting, you can select a category and optionally add a comment. Use reporting when you want to flag the call as well as stop further calls from that number.
Automatic Call screening has a separate software requirement
Samsung’s newer automatic Call screening feature is separate from Caller ID and spam protection. Samsung says it requires Android 16 with One UI 8.5 or higher and can automatically screen unknown callers. Availability and exact options may still depend on the device and software rollout; see Samsung’s Call screening instructions.

Why the options may be missing

Your wireless provider or software version may not offer the same controls or labels.

Smart Call and its related features are not available on every carrier or model. Samsung’s Smart Call overview describes caller identification and spam blocking/reporting; its global newsroom explainer attributes Smart Call features to Hiya and notes that availability varies by country and device.

If you do not see the listed menu, check your Phone app’s Settings for similarly named caller ID or spam controls. Do not assume that a missing option is available on your particular model or carrier.
