To download Calamity for Terraria, install tModLoader through Steam, then install Calamity from its Steam Workshop listing or tModLoader’s in-game Mod Browser. Enable the mod and its required Calamity Mod Music dependency in tModLoader’s Mods menu, then reload. You need to own Terraria to use tModLoader.
What you need before installing Calamity
- A copy of Terraria. The tModLoader Steam listing says ownership of Terraria is required.
- tModLoader, the separate, free mod platform for Terraria. Its Steam listing supports Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- An internet connection to download the loader and mods.
The Calamity download page directs players to use tModLoader on Steam. Calamity is not installed by adding files to the regular Terraria game; launch tModLoader to manage and play the mod.

Choose where to download Calamity
You can get the mod through either the Steam Workshop or the Mod Browser inside tModLoader. Use the Workshop if you prefer browsing in Steam; use the Mod Browser to find and install mods without leaving the loader.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Route | Where to use it | What the sources establish |
|---|---|---|
| Steam Workshop | Calamity’s Workshop listing | The tModLoader Steam listing confirms Workshop support. Steam subscriptions download and update Workshop items through Steam. |
| In-game Mod Browser | Inside tModLoader | The tModLoader Steam listing identifies an in-game browser; Calamity’s official wiki says its mods can be installed through the browser. |
Install Calamity through tModLoader
- Install tModLoader. In Steam, open its store listing and install it. Confirm that Terraria is in your Steam library.
- Find Calamity. Either open the Calamity Mod Workshop listing and subscribe, or launch tModLoader and search for Calamity in the Mod Browser.
- Install its required music mod. Calamity’s current Workshop listing identifies Calamity Mod Music as required. Find and install that item through the Workshop or Mod Browser as well.
- Enable the mods. In tModLoader, open the Mods menu and enable Calamity Mod and Calamity Mod Music.
- Reload and start playing. Use the reload option shown in the Mods menu to load the enabled mods, then start or load a world from tModLoader.
Required music mod versus optional music expansion
Calamity Mod Music is the required dependency identified by the Calamity Workshop listing. The separate Vanilla Calamity Music Mod is an optional soundtrack companion, not a substitute for the required dependency. The official Calamity download page describes it as an expansion for the vanilla soundtrack.

Check compatibility and the current version
Calamity’s official wiki pages do not agree on the latest release: the main page lists 2.2.3, while the version history lists 2.2.4 with an August 9, 2026 release date. The Workshop listing identifies support for tModLoader 1.4.3 and 1.4.4, but that does not resolve the mismatch or establish the newest compatible pairing. Check the live Workshop listing and the version shown in your tModLoader browser before installing; do not rely on a version number copied from an older guide.

Everyone joining a tModLoader multiplayer session needs tModLoader; players using vanilla Terraria cannot join tModLoader users. Have each player install and enable the same relevant mods before connecting. The requirement is described on the tModLoader Steam listing.
