Sharp TVs do not have one confirmed manufacturer worldwide. Sharp is a Japanese electronics company with a long history of making televisions, while Hisense says it took over Sharp’s TV business in North and South America in 2015. That regional deal does not establish who makes every Sharp-branded TV sold today. For a specific set, check its model number and market-specific product documentation.
Sharp’s role in television manufacturing
Sharp Corporation is headquartered in Osaka, Japan, and describes its business as manufacturing and selling telecommunications equipment, electrical and electronic application equipment, and electronic components. Its official chronology says it began full-scale mass production of Japan-made TV sets in 1953. That establishes Sharp’s role in the history of television manufacturing, but it does not identify the maker of every Sharp-branded television currently sold.

What the Hisense deal covered
Hisense’s corporate histories say it took over Sharp’s television business in North and South America in 2015. This is evidence of a regional business transfer at that time—not evidence that Hisense currently manufactures every Sharp TV, or that the arrangement applies to other regions. The official materials available do not establish a current, comprehensive map of Sharp TV manufacturers by country or model.

How to identify who is responsible for a particular Sharp TV
The Sharp logo alone does not settle who manufactured, licensed, sold, or supports a specific set. Those roles can differ. Use the full model number and documentation for the market where the TV was sold.

- Find the full model number. Check the rear or side label, the TV’s settings menu, or its original paperwork. Include regional suffixes; similar model names may refer to different products.
- Check the product label and manual. Look for the named manufacturer, importer, or responsible company. Confirm that the document matches the exact model and sales region.
- Review the warranty and official support listing. These identify the company responsible for support or warranty service in that market; they do not necessarily identify the physical manufacturer.
- Keep the roles separate. A brand owner or licensing entity, manufacturer, seller, and warranty provider are distinct. If you need to know who built the set, prioritize the manufacturer named in its model-specific product documentation.
What can—and cannot—be concluded
- Established: Sharp is a Japanese electronics company, and its official history records Japan-made TV production beginning at full scale in 1953.
- Established: Hisense reports taking over Sharp’s TV business in North and South America in 2015.
- Not established by those facts: the present-day manufacturer of every Sharp TV, a current global arrangement, or the maker of an individual set without checking its model-specific, regional documentation.
