To turn off adaptive triggers on PS5, open Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > Trigger Effect Intensity, then choose Off. Sony uses “Trigger Effect Intensity” as the setting name for the trigger effects available in supported games.
Turn off trigger effects in PS5 settings
- Press the PS button and return to the PS5 home screen.
- Open Settings using the gear icon.
- Select Accessories, then Controller (General).
- Open Trigger Effect Intensity and select Off.
Sony’s DualSense support page identifies this control as the intensity setting for trigger effects. The DualSense controller manual also explains that trigger effects can be disabled through Accessories settings.
What the setting changes
“Adaptive triggers” is the common name for the feature; on the PS5, the menu calls it Trigger Effect Intensity. Setting it to Off disables the trigger effects in games that support them. It does not disable every controller feature or change a game’s other settings.
If you use a DualSense Edge
The DualSense Edge has physical L2/R2 trigger-stop sliders on the back. Sony’s DualSense Edge manual says trigger effects are unavailable when the stop sliders are set to short or medium. This is specific to the Edge; for the general software setting, use the PS5 menu path above.

Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
If the setting is missing
Check that you are in Settings > Accessories > Controller (General), rather than a game’s own controller menu. Sony’s main support instructions are on a Canadian English page, and menu labels may change with PS5 system software. If the wording differs on your console, look in the current controller settings for the trigger-effect control.
