Zyte MCP connects compatible AI agents to Zyte tools for fetching and rendering web pages, extracting data, searching the web, and working with Scrapy Cloud. The connector itself is free to use; Zyte API requests and Scrapy Cloud work initiated through it are billed to the connected Zyte account.

What Zyte MCP does

Zyte MCP is a remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) server at https://mcp.zyte.com/v1/mcp. It gives an agent a set of tools for requesting web data and interacting with a Zyte account. Instead of manually calling each tool, you can describe a task in natural language; the agent selects an appropriate tool, sends a request, and works with the result.

Zyte’s documentation describes these capabilities:

  • Fetch a page over HTTP: use fetch_http to retrieve page content without browser rendering.
  • Fetch a rendered page: use fetch_page when a page needs browser rendering. It can return rendered HTML or screenshots and supports interactions such as clicking, typing, scrolling, and waiting for page elements.
  • Extract structured information: extract data from HTTP or browser-fetched pages.
  • Search the web: run searches, including with location options.
  • Inspect Zyte API usage and pricing: look up domain pricing and usage statistics.
  • Work with Scrapy Cloud: look up organization information and manage accessible projects, jobs, schedules, and collection data.

Fetch and extraction tools also support options such as request location, IP type, cookies, and session continuity; HTTP tools can emulate a mobile device. The exact controls depend on the tool and task. These capabilities are described in Zyte’s MCP guide.

How to connect Zyte MCP to Codex

Zyte provides client-specific setup instructions. For Codex CLI, configure the remote server using the guide, then authenticate with the Zyte organization you want to use.

  1. Configure the server: follow the Codex CLI instructions in the Zyte MCP guide and use the documented endpoint https://mcp.zyte.com/v1/mcp.
  2. Sign in: run codex mcp login zyte in the CLI. Authentication links the connection to a Zyte organization and uses a dedicated mcp_access_key.
  3. Select an organization if prompted: if your account has more than one organization, choose the one whose resources and billing should apply.
  4. Verify a small request: ask Codex to fetch a simple page explicitly with Zyte, for example: Fetch https://example.com with Zyte and tell me the title of the page. Confirm that the agent makes a Zyte tool call and that the activity appears in Zyte API statistics.

The broader Agentic Web Data offering combines agent skills with Zyte MCP and is documented for environments including Claude Code, Codex CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI, and compatible agent-plugin clients. Zyte also documents Web Scraping Copilot as a Visual Studio Code extension. These are different workflows: Agentic Web Data provides agent skills and MCP tools across supported environments, while Web Scraping Copilot is centered on VS Code. Check Zyte’s Agentic Web Data documentation for current client instructions and availability.

Does Zyte MCP cost money?

The MCP connector is free to use, but that does not make the work performed through it free. Zyte API requests made by the agent are billed to the connected account at Zyte API rates and count toward its rate limits. Work started in Scrapy Cloud is billed under Scrapy Cloud pricing. Zyte explains this distinction in its MCP billing documentation.

Costs depend on the target website and request type. Zyte’s pricing page says it charges for successful responses and notes that additional charges may apply for actions, network captures, screenshots, and automatic extraction. It currently lists initial credits of $5 for standard plans and $200 for Enterprise, but plan terms and credits can change; check the live pricing page before relying on those amounts.

One natural-language task can trigger several billable requests. For example, gathering data from a paginated listing may require separate requests for multiple pages. The agent’s single prompt is therefore not a reliable measure of usage.

How to limit spending and manage account access

  • Track activity by key: Zyte documents usage tracking through the dedicated mcp_access_key.
  • Set a spending limit: configure a limit on that key so agent activity is bounded.
  • Check usage after testing: compare the requested task with the activity shown in Zyte API statistics, especially when a workflow may visit multiple pages or use screenshots or browser actions.
  • Choose the right organization: the authenticated organization determines which account resources and charges are involved.

These controls are especially useful for unattended or repeated agent tasks, where a seemingly small request may produce multiple calls.

What an agent can change in Scrapy Cloud

For projects available to the connected account, documented agent actions include starting or cancelling jobs, creating, changing, or deleting schedules, changing project settings, and writing or deleting collection records. This is more than read-only browsing: requests can change project state or remove data.

Review consequential actions before approving them. Zyte warns that deleting schedules, collections, or records cannot be undone. Limit the connected account and project access to what the agent needs, and require confirmation for destructive operations when your client supports approval controls.
