The OnePlus 12R is a performance-focused 2024 phone whose strongest case is its vivid, adaptive 120 Hz display, large battery and capable Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. Its main camera is more convincing than its supporting cameras, and it lacks wireless charging. Whether it is a good buy now depends on the price and configuration available in your market, not its launch-era value.
OnePlus 12R review: what stands out
The 12R gives priority to the everyday experience of looking at the screen, running demanding apps and getting through a long day. OnePlus’s US specification page lists a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with a 2780 × 1264 resolution, 450 ppi and a dynamic refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz. TechRadar identifies it as LTPO 4.0, and reviewers at TechRadar, Tech Advisor and Android Authority praised the display. The refresh rate can adapt to what is on screen; the listed range does not mean every app or activity runs at 120 Hz.
Performance comes from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a prior-generation flagship chipset when the 12R launched. The US model is listed with either 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage or 16 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. Independent reviewers described performance positively, including sustained performance in Tech Advisor’s assessment. Those are reviewer observations, not a guarantee that every workload or software version will behave identically.

OnePlus lists a typical battery capacity of 5,500 mAh. Reviewers praised its endurance; Tech Advisor reported two-day battery life in its review, but that is a reviewer observation rather than a promised runtime for all users. Charging speed depends on region: the official US specifications list 80W SUPERVOOC, while OnePlus’s January 2024 launch announcement described 100W and a 1–100% charge in 26 minutes. That 26-minute figure is manufacturer launch messaging, not a universal result for every variant or charging condition. Check the exact regional model and box contents before relying on a particular charging speed or adapter.

How good are the OnePlus 12R cameras?
The 50 MP main camera is the most capable part of the system. OnePlus identifies it as a Sony IMX890 sensor with optical image stabilization in its US specifications. The supporting cameras are the more obvious compromise: reviewers criticize their quality and versatility. TechRadar specifically notes that the 8 MP ultra-wide and 2 MP macro do not match the main camera for quality and consistency; Android Authority describes the camera system more broadly as mid-to-bad, while Tech Advisor also calls the secondary cameras mediocre.
That distinction matters if you often switch between focal lengths or expect similar results from every rear camera. The 12R is easier to recommend to someone who mostly uses the main camera than to someone who treats camera range and consistency as a priority.

What are the OnePlus 12R’s main drawbacks?
No wireless charging
Android Authority and Tech Advisor identify wireless charging as absent. The phone’s charging case is therefore wired charging; the official US listing specifies 80W SUPERVOOC, with faster 100W charging described for some other markets.

Published review specifications conflict: TechRadar reports IP64, while Tech Advisor reports IP65. The cited official US specification page does not resolve that discrepancy in its visible details. Do not assume one rating applies to every regional handset; check the exact model’s official documentation if water resistance is important to you.

Software support has a defined window
OnePlus promises at least three Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates from launch. The US page lists OxygenOS 14 based on Android 14 as its reference baseline and cautions that software information may be updated. Since the 12R launched in 2024, that baseline should not be mistaken for its current installed software or remaining support period; check OnePlus’s current information for the relevant region before buying.

Is the OnePlus 12R worth buying?
Consider it if you value a high-refresh-rate display, strong everyday performance, long battery endurance and fast wired charging more than camera versatility, wireless charging or a confidently established water-resistance rating. The positive reviews and roughly $500 launch positioning in the US were specific to the phone’s 2024 release context; they do not establish its value in 2026.

Before choosing it, compare the exact local price and storage configuration with newer phones available where you live, and check the remaining software support and regional charging specification. The 12R makes the most sense when its screen, battery and speed are priorities and its current price reflects that it is a 2024 model.
