To show a clock on a supported LG Smart TV while it is idle, enable Always Ready, turn the TV off with its remote, then choose the Clock option on the background screen. The clock display and the TV’s time setting are separate: use Time & Timer if the time itself is incorrect. Menus and feature availability vary by model and webOS version.
How do I display the clock on my LG TV?
- Press Settings on the remote. If it has no Settings button, press Home and select the on-screen Settings icon.
- Open All Settings, then find General and Always Ready. On webOS 22, LG documents the path as All Settings → General → Always Ready Mode → Enable. On LG’s 2024 webOS 24 guide, the route is Settings → All Settings → General → Always Ready → Enable; you may also be able to open Always Ready from Home.
- Turn the TV off using its remote. On supported models, this brings up the Always Ready background screen rather than fully ending the display session.
- Open the background screen’s options or settings and select Clock or a clock design. The exact controls and labels can differ by model.
LG documents this clock as a Background Screen option in Always Ready, not as a universal overlay that remains visible while watching live TV or using any app. For the model-specific instructions, see LG’s webOS 22 Always Ready guide and its general Always Ready guide.
How do I keep a clock on my LG TV screen?
Always Ready is the documented way to display a clock on the idle TV’s background screen. It is model-dependent: LG says availability differs across TVs and recommends checking the manual for your exact model. If you cannot find Always Ready or a Clock background option, the feature may not be supported on that TV. The Always Ready screen can also offer an Information mode that shows time and weather, but that is distinct from selecting a clock design.

Correct the TV’s underlying clock separately from the Always Ready display. LG’s menu paths depend on the TV’s release year and software generation:

On newer menus, check Set Automatically. LG says the TV may obtain time from digital broadcasts when an antenna is connected or from internet standard time when the TV is online. If the clock is wrong, check that the relevant connection is available, the TV’s location is correct, and automatic time has not been disabled. A set-top box connection alone may not supply time to the TV if the TV itself has no network connection.
For older sets, LG describes another route: Home → Setup → Clock/Time → Clock. Choose Auto and the appropriate time zone, or choose Manual and enter the date and time. With manual clock settings, time-zone and daylight-saving choices are disabled. See LG’s clock setup and troubleshooting guide and LG’s older clock instructions.

What if the clock or Always Ready setting is missing?
- Check the exact model manual. Always Ready and its background-screen clock are not available on every LG TV.
- Look for a different menu route. LG’s paths vary by model and webOS version; try the Home screen’s Settings icon if your remote lacks a Settings key.
- Check the time source and location. Automatic time may fail if the TV has neither a usable internet connection nor an antenna connection for digital broadcasts, or if its location is incorrect.
- Do not treat startup-screen behavior as a general clock setting. LG’s older guidance says that, on the models it covers, a military-time display during the brief 2–5-second startup screen cannot be changed through a menu setting; it says the post-startup display uses 12-hour format. This older note is not a rule for every current LG TV.
