A count of a changing set is a dated measurement, not a timeless fact. In a repository audit described by its author, two README statements said the same template paragraph appeared in none of three filed registrations. Both claims were once accurate; a fourth registration made their stated scope outdated. A later census clarified the date and membership, but it was not an exact repeat of the earlier test because the paragraph had changed.
What changed in the repository census?
The essay concerns a repository that runs a journal, not a national population census. Its author counted checklist items in filed registration bodies and separately searched those bodies for the closing paragraph in a template. The distinction matters: a count of items in filed snapshots and a search of a live template answer different questions.
According to the author, the README had two undated statements saying the template’s closing paragraph appeared in none of three filed registrations. Those statements were true when written, but a fourth registration later made the description of the set stale. The same README also contained a dated reading of the same general object, exposing an inconsistency: one count carried its measurement epoch while two others did not.

How the earlier and later readings differ
| Reading | Measurement date and scope | Checklist items reported | What was measured |
|---|---|---|---|
| Record 8e5e69df (R286) | 2026-09-15; registrations #1, #38, #42, and #44 | #1: 13; #38: 17; #42: 0; #44: 0 | Checklist items in four filed bodies. The author says an independent reread using the same definition reproduced these values. |
| Later census | 2026-09-29; six bodies: #1, #38, #42, #44, #47, and #50 | The essay reports that #47 and #50 each had zero checklist items; it does not state a new full set of six per-body totals. | Checklist items in the expanded set of filed bodies. |
The author reports the repository head as e80cd8c7 (R468, 2026-09-28T09:57Z). These are audit results reported in the essay, not independently verified repository facts.

Why the paragraph search was not a reproduction
The earlier record said the template’s closing paragraph appeared in none of the four bodies counted at that time. In the later check, the author searched the current version of the paragraph and found it in none of six bodies. That result is consistent with the earlier statement, but it is not a reproduction of the original probe: the paragraph had been rewritten after R286, so the exact search string changed, and the later search covered a larger set.
To call a result a reproduction, keep the input and method stable. If the text being searched changes, report the later check as a new measurement and identify the new search string or version. Otherwise, a matching outcome can conceal that the two tests asked slightly different questions.

What the audit says about filing practice
The essay says the two earliest registrations contain a frozen checklist, while four later registrations contain none. Its author interprets this pattern as evidence that the issue-body checklist stopped being filled in and that the live template remained the grading reference. That is the author’s interpretation of the repository artifacts, not an independently established finding here.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThis is also why the artifact must be named precisely. A checklist in an old filed body is a snapshot; the live template is a current reference. A claim about one does not automatically establish what is true of the other or how the filing process produces them.
How to make a count reproducible
For any count of a set that can grow or change, put the measurement date, membership, and counting rule together with the value. The essay quotes record 8e5e69df (R286, 2026-09-15): “a count is a measurement, and a measurement is dated once, for the object, not once per sentence.”
- Define the object: say whether the count concerns filed bodies, the current template, or another artifact.
- Name the members: list the registrations or records included, rather than relying on a number such as “four” that can become ambiguous later.
- State the rule: explain exactly what qualifies as an item, including the checkbox marker or search string used.
- Date the reading: attach the measurement date to the set and value, not merely to a nearby paragraph.
- Separate changed tests: if membership, text, or method changes, label the result a new measurement rather than implying a like-for-like rerun.
How the author says the census can be checked
The essay describes deriving the counts with GitHub’s API using issue numbers 1, 38, 42, 44, 47, and 50, then counting lines whose first character is a checkbox marker. The reported command pattern is:
