Samsung phones do not have Apple’s AirDrop feature. For nearby sharing, use Quick Share: compatible Galaxy devices can send files to supported Apple devices when the Galaxy has the Share with Apple devices option. Availability depends on the Galaxy model, software and market, so check for that option on your phone before troubleshooting.
Choose Quick Share or Smart Switch
Use Quick Share to send individual photos, videos or documents between nearby devices. Use Smart Switch when setting up a new Galaxy and moving supported content from an iPhone. Smart Switch is a migration tool, not Samsung’s name for AirDrop.
| Your goal | Use | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Send a file to a nearby iPhone, iPad or Mac | Quick Share with Share with Apple devices | Requires compatible devices and discoverability; availability varies by Galaxy model and market. |
| Move supported data to a new Galaxy | Smart Switch | Supports wireless, cable and external-storage methods. Samsung recommends wired transfers for the broadest range of transferable content; wireless may be more practical for a long transfer because both phones can stay connected to chargers. |
| Restore additional iPhone data | Smart Switch’s supported iCloud workflow, where available | Some data may require a follow-up restore or app-specific steps. It is not a promise of a complete phone clone. |
Check whether your Galaxy supports Apple-device sharing
Samsung’s published availability varies by market and date. Its India support page, updated April 24, 2026, said Apple-device sharing was supported only on the Galaxy S26 series as of March 2026, with expansion planned. Samsung Japan’s page, updated September 11, 2026, lists S-series models from S24 onward and Z Fold7 and Z Flip7. These regional lists should not be treated as one universal compatibility list. Check your local Samsung support guidance and look for the setting on your own phone.

Send a file from a Galaxy to an Apple device
- On the Galaxy, turn on Bluetooth. Open Settings > Connected devices > Quick Share and turn on Share with Apple devices, if the option is available.
- On the Apple device, open Settings > General > AirDrop and select Everyone (10 minutes) so the Galaxy can discover it.
- On the Galaxy, open the photo or file in Gallery or My Files, tap Share > Quick Share, then select the Apple device.
- Accept the incoming transfer on the Apple device if prompted.
Quick Share uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for nearby transfers. Menu wording can differ between software releases.
Send a file from an Apple device to a Galaxy
- On the Galaxy, open Settings > Connected devices > Quick Share. Under Who can share with you, choose Everyone (10 minutes only).
- On the Apple device, open the file or photo, tap Share > AirDrop, and choose the Galaxy from the nearby devices.
- Accept the transfer on the Galaxy.
Fix discovery or transfer problems
- The Apple-sharing toggle is missing: Check your Galaxy model and local Samsung support page; the feature is not available on every Galaxy or in every market. Update Quick Share and Google Play services if updates are available. Samsung Australia says a policy change can take up to a day to take effect.
- The other device does not appear: Check that Bluetooth is on and that each device’s visibility setting allows discovery. For Apple devices, use Everyone (10 minutes); for Galaxy, use Everyone (10 minutes only).
- Discovery still fails: Samsung says hotspot use or certain Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-Fi Aware features can interfere. Turn off those features if they are active, then retry. Samsung also notes that Wi-Fi may turn off during sharing with Apple devices.
- The Apple device is not listed as compatible: Samsung’s listed examples include iPhone 8 or later, iPad (5th generation) or later, and MacBook (2020 or later), but regional availability and supported Galaxy models still matter.
Move iPhone data to a new Galaxy with Smart Switch
For migration, use Samsung Smart Switch rather than sending items one at a time with Quick Share. Samsung’s iPhone-to-Galaxy guide lists categories that can include photos, videos, contacts, messages, files, notes, voice memos, calendar, apps and settings; the exact list depends on the connected device. Samsung’s UK guide says its documented process does not transfer passwords or Apple Keychain data, and Apple-owned apps cannot transfer as apps, though Android versions may be available to download.
