To spoof a tech-savvy friend harmlessly, show a browser-based fake hacker terminal or mock system scan as a brief visual gag. Keep it on the screen, make the reveal easy to spot, and end the joke promptly—never imply that you accessed their accounts, files, or device.
What “spoofing” means for this kind of prank
Here, “spoof” means imitating the look of a hacker terminal or system scan—not breaking into a device or changing anything. The examples covered by HackerPranks and AltFTool describe browser-based cosmetic effects or scripted text animations. Those are the publishers’ descriptions, not independent security audits.
Choose a visual gag that fits the audience

Pick the least intense effect that will amuse the person. A fake scan with a visible reveal is easier to end than a prolonged, full-screen display that resembles a real incident.

How to keep the prank harmless
- Use a page whose behavior you understand. Read its description and know how to close or exit it before showing it. A publisher’s safety claims apply to that page’s description; they do not guarantee that every prank site is safe.
- Keep it visual and on-screen. Do not ask for or enter credentials, download files, use remote access, open someone’s accounts, or change system settings.
- Choose a relaxed setting. Avoid work or school, where someone could mistake a fake intrusion for a genuine security incident or interrupt a real response.
- Reveal the joke promptly. Use a clear reveal or exit rather than leaving the person worried. Do not claim you accessed private files or accounts, or direct them to a supposed support number.
What these examples do—and do not—establish
The cited pages describe browser-based simulations; they do not establish that every site with a fake hacker screen is safe or independently verified. No physical item is necessary for the browser-page and screen-animation formats described here. Treat any page’s claims about its own behavior as page-specific, and avoid unfamiliar downloads or requests for personal information.
