To download CC for The Sims 4, get a creator’s files, extract any ZIP or RAR archive, place the content in the correct folder in your user Documents location, then enable custom content in the game. The standard process applies to PC and Mac; EA says mods are not available on PlayStation or Xbox.
What CC is—and where it works
EA uses “mods” as a broad term for player-made content. Custom content (CC) usually means additions such as hair, clothing, and furniture; other mods can change how the game functions. Ordinary CC does not automatically require a script-mod installation.

EA’s instructions support installing mods on PC and Mac, but not on PlayStation or Xbox. The folder-based steps below are for the computer version.
Choose a download and check its instructions
Download the specific item from a creator or source you trust, and read the creator’s installation and compatibility notes. EA cautions that “Maxis and EA don’t pre-screen, endorse, or support specific Mods or Custom Content.” That means EA’s guide is not a safety check or endorsement of a particular file or download site.

CurseForge provides a manual installation guide, but you can follow the same basic folder-and-settings workflow for CC obtained elsewhere; always use the file’s own instructions if they differ.
Download, extract, and identify the files
- Download the item to your computer.
- If it arrives in a ZIP or RAR archive, extract the archive before installing. Use the extracted files rather than leaving the archive as-is in the Mods folder.
- Check the file type and the creator’s instructions to determine its destination. Package files for ordinary CC go in Mods. Lots, rooms, and Sims may include files meant for Tray instead.
Put the files in the right folder
For package CC, open your user-data folder at Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods and move the extracted files there. This is the game’s user folder, not the folder where the game application is installed. If Mods does not exist, EA says you can create it inside the The Sims 4 user folder.

Your Documents folder may be in a different location if you configured it that way. Locate the Documents folder used for your Windows or Mac user account, then follow the Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 path within it.

Do not put every downloaded Sims item in Mods: some downloads for lots, rooms, and Sims contain files intended for the game’s Tray folder. Follow the download’s placement instructions for those items.

Script mods are a special case
If a download is a script mod rather than ordinary package CC, follow its creator’s directions. Supplemental EA Forums guidance says script mods should be no more than one folder deep inside Mods. This depth note applies specifically to script mods, not every CC file.
Enable CC in The Sims 4
- Launch the game and open Game Options > Other.
- Check Enable Custom Content and Mods.
- Apply the change and relaunch the game.
After the relaunch, the content should be available in the game where that type of item normally appears. If it does not, use the checks below rather than repeatedly downloading the same file.

If CC does not appear
- Check the destination: confirm package files are in the user folder’s Mods directory, and that Tray-type downloads were placed where their instructions specify.
- Confirm extraction: if the download was a ZIP or RAR, extract it and place the relevant files in the destination folder.
- Verify the game setting: return to Game Options > Other and check that Enable Custom Content and Mods is selected, then relaunch.
- Check compatibility after an update: game updates may disable mods. Review the creator’s latest compatibility guidance and re-enable the setting if needed.
If the game says CC or mods have been disabled, EA advises exiting without saving before changing the setting. Saving first may remove content from the save. Correct the setting, relaunch, and then check the affected save.
