To transfer contacts from a Samsung phone to an iPhone, choose the method that matches where the contacts are stored and whether the iPhone is still in setup. For a new iPhone, Apple’s Move to iOS app can transfer contacts during setup. If the iPhone is already set up, sync the Google or other supported account holding the contacts, or import a vCard file. Import from a SIM only if the contacts are actually saved on that SIM.
Choose a transfer method

Use Move to iOS on a new iPhone
Move to iOS is Apple’s main route for transferring contacts from Android as part of initial iPhone setup. It is intended for a new iPhone that has not finished setup.
- On the iPhone, continue setup until you reach the option to transfer data from Android, then select it.
- On the Samsung phone, open the Move to iOS app and follow its prompts. Use the code and connection instructions shown on the iPhone.
- Select Contacts, along with any other data you want to transfer, and leave both phones powered on while the transfer runs.
- Wait for the progress bar on the iPhone to finish before using either device or deciding the transfer is complete.
Apple says a direct USB-C connection between compatible devices can speed up the broader transfer, but it is optional. Compatibility depends on the devices and their supported connection; a cable is not required just to transfer contacts. Apple Support

Apple says you must erase the iPhone and begin setup again to use Move to iOS after setup is complete. Erasing removes the iPhone’s current contents, so do not choose this route unless you are prepared to erase it and have protected anything you need. If you want to keep the current setup, use account sync or import a vCard instead. Apple Support

Sync the account that holds your contacts
If the Samsung contacts are stored in Google or another supported email account, add that same account to the iPhone and enable Contacts. Apple lists providers such as Google, Microsoft Exchange, and Yahoo among the supported account options. This makes the account’s contacts available on the iPhone without restarting setup. - On the iPhone, open Settings and go to the account controls for Mail or Contacts.
- Add the Google or other supported account where the Samsung contacts are stored, and sign in.
- Turn on Contacts for that account, then open the Contacts app to check the results.
Account sync only brings over contacts held in that account. It will not retrieve contacts stored only on the Samsung itself. The exact storage location can vary by device and account settings, so check the Samsung’s contact accounts if expected names do not appear.

Import contacts from a SIM
Use SIM import only when the contacts are stored on a compatible SIM card. Insert the SIM containing those contacts, then on the iPhone go to Settings > Apps > Contacts > Import SIM Contacts and follow the prompts. Open Contacts afterward and check that the expected names and numbers are present. Apple Support

Which details come across depends on how the previous phone saved the contact information. Import a vCard file
If you have exported the Samsung contacts to a vCard file, typically ending in .vcf, deliver the file to the iPhone as an email or message attachment. Tap the attachment on the iPhone to import the vCard. iPhone User Guide
The Samsung export menus are not the same for every model and software version. Confirm the export steps for your particular phone rather than relying on a generic menu path. Once the file is on the iPhone, Apple’s documented import method is to open the .vcf attachment.

Check the result and fix common problems
- Move to iOS is not available: If iPhone setup is finished, either erase the iPhone and restart setup to use Move to iOS, or keep the current setup and choose account sync or vCard import.
- SIM import brings over too few contacts: Check whether the missing contacts were saved to the SIM. Contacts stored only in an account or on the Samsung are not included in a SIM import.
- The iPhone shows fewer contacts than expected after account sync: Confirm that you added the account where those contacts are actually stored and enabled Contacts for it.
- The transfer appears to finish on the Samsung first: For Move to iOS, keep both devices powered and wait for the iPhone progress bar to complete before treating the transfer as finished.
After any method, open the iPhone Contacts app and verify that the names and phone numbers you expected are present.
