The OnePlus Nord 5 suits buyers who put performance, a 144Hz screen and a high-resolution selfie camera first. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G is the stronger fit if you want a larger rated battery, a higher-resolution main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a sharper stated display resolution and a lower UK review-market price. Neither is an automatic winner: camera results, software and value depend on the specific regional model and your priorities.

Which phone is better for performance and gaming?

The Nord 5 is the better on-paper choice for performance. It uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, while the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400-Ultra. That makes the Nord the more compelling starting point for demanding games and other performance-heavy use. It does not establish a fixed real-world performance gap: results vary with the app, software, temperature and test conditions. The 91mobiles comparison reports a higher Geekbench multi-core result for the Nord, but treat that as a test-specific comparison rather than a promise about every task.

How do their displays differ?

Both phones have a 6.83-inch display, but they emphasize different specifications. The Nord 5 is listed at 144Hz, which may appeal if smooth scrolling and supported games are your priority. The Redmi’s 6.83-inch panel has a stated resolution of 2772 × 1280 and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz; Xiaomi also lists a 3,200-nit peak-brightness figure for it. The resolution and brightness figures come from Xiaomi’s global specifications, while the Nord figures are from TechRadar’s review specifications. These numbers describe the panels on paper, not a controlled side-by-side assessment of how bright or readable they look in every setting.

Which has the better cameras?

The Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G has the more ambitious listed rear main-camera hardware: Xiaomi specifies a 200MP main camera with OIS, alongside an 8MP ultrawide. The Nord 5 is listed with a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide in the 91mobiles comparison. For selfies, TechRadar lists a 50MP front camera on the Nord and a 20MP front camera on the Redmi.

Those resolutions do not establish which phone takes better photographs. Image processing, lighting, focus and the camera mode all matter, and the cited material does not provide controlled head-to-head samples. Choose based on the hardware feature you value—OIS and higher main-camera resolution on Redmi, or higher listed front-camera resolution on Nord—rather than treating megapixel counts as a quality score.

Which has better battery life and charging?

Xiaomi rates the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G’s battery at 6,580mAh and wired charging at 45W. TechRadar lists the Nord 5 at 5,200mAh with 80W charging. The Redmi therefore has the larger rated capacity, while the Nord has the higher rated charging wattage. Capacity and wattage alone cannot tell you exact screen-on time or how long either phone takes to charge; usage, charging conditions and other factors affect those outcomes.

How much do they cost?

In TechRadar’s UK review-market listings, the Redmi is cheaper at both directly comparable configurations. The Nord 5 is listed at £399 for 8GB/256GB and £499 for 12GB/512GB; the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G is listed at £349 and £399 for those respective configurations.

Configuration Nord 5 price in TechRadar review Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G price in TechRadar review Difference
8GB/256GB £399 £349 Redmi £50 less
12GB/512GB £499 £399 Redmi £100 less

These are prices reported in reviews, not verified current checkout prices; retailer offers, availability and taxes can change. TechRadar also lists the Nord at AU$799 for 8GB/256GB and AU$899 for 12GB/512GB, and the Redmi at AU$699 for 8GB/256GB. That is not a like-for-like Australian price comparison at both configurations because the cited Redmi listing does not give a 12GB/512GB price. The Redmi review described the phone as not sold directly in the US in that review context; availability can change, so confirm current local stock rather than treating that as a universal statement.

What should you check about software and regional versions?

TechRadar describes the Nord 5 it reviewed as running Android 15 with OxygenOS 15. Its Redmi review describes HyperOS 2 based on Android 15 at launch and reports four years of OS updates and six years of security updates. Xiaomi India’s product page describes the Redmi with HyperOS 3 on Android 15 and “4+6 years updates.” These are region- and time-specific descriptions, not proof that every retail unit ships with the same firmware or update terms. Check the software version and update commitment for the exact model sold in your market.

Regional specifications and box contents can also differ. Xiaomi’s global Redmi specifications page says package contents may vary by region and lists a protective case among the box contents, so check what is included with the local model before buying a separate case. TechRadar notes that the Nord 5 weighs 211g, has a glass back and is large; if you want a case for it, confirm that the case listing fits the Nord 5 specifically.

Which phone should you choose?

Choose the OnePlus Nord 5 if

  • You prioritize the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and performance headroom.
  • You prefer the higher listed 144Hz refresh rate.
  • You want the higher-resolution listed front camera.
  • You are comfortable with its price in your region compared with the Redmi.

Choose the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G if

  • You value its larger rated battery and 200MP OIS main camera hardware.
  • You prefer its higher stated display resolution.
  • You want to pay less than the Nord’s UK review-market prices at the listed matching configurations, subject to current local prices.

Before buying either phone, match the regional model, RAM and storage configuration, software, warranty and current price. The hardware comparison can narrow the choice, but it cannot settle preferences such as camera rendering or which software interface you find more comfortable.
