You can give Claude or ChatGPT Google Search Console data through an integration that uses the Search Console API and OAuth 2.0. Google’s official documentation does not establish a native one-click connection from a Search Console property to Claude.ai or ChatGPT, so don’t assume either assistant can connect directly from its settings.

What “connecting” Search Console to an AI assistant means

The documented approach is an integration between three parts: your Google account authorizes access to a Search Console property, an application requests data from Google’s API, and that application passes the results to Claude or ChatGPT for analysis. Google does not provide a prebuilt Claude or ChatGPT connector in the official material cited here.

Google requires OAuth 2.0 for Search Console API requests: “Your application must use OAuth 2.0 to authorize requests. No other authorization protocols are supported.” (Google Search Console API authorization.) This is an API integration pattern, not a setting that makes an assistant automatically see your property.

What the Search Console API can provide

The API has services for Search Analytics, Sitemaps, Sites, and URL Inspection. Choose a method that matches the question you want the assistant to answer; the data it can analyze is limited to what the integration requests and your account is authorized to access. See Google’s Search Console API reference.

  • Search Analytics: Query Search Console performance data.
  • Sitemaps: Work with sitemap data and related API actions.
  • Sites: List or manage Search Console properties available to the authorized account.
  • URL Inspection: Retrieve inspection information for a URL.

How to build the API-based connection

The exact configuration depends on the application you use or build, but the essential sequence is authorization, an API request, and delivery of the returned data to the model.

  1. Confirm property access. Sign in with the Google account that can access the relevant Search Console property. Google specifies that read permission is required for Search Analytics queries. Check the authorization guidance and API prerequisites.
  2. Set up a Google API project. Register or select a project in Google API Console, enable the Search Console API, and configure OAuth credentials. Google documents these requirements in its prerequisites and authorization instructions.
  3. Request the least access needed. For an analytics-only workflow, use the read-only scope https://www.googleapis.com/auth/webmasters.readonly if it supports the task. The broader https://www.googleapis.com/auth/webmasters scope allows reading and writing. Google lists both in its authorization documentation.
  4. Complete OAuth consent. The authorized user signs in and grants the requested scope. The application uses the resulting authorization token when it calls the API; Google requires an authorization token on each request. Keep credentials and tokens in the integration’s secure credential storage, not in an assistant prompt.
  5. Request the relevant data and send it to the assistant. Configure the integration to call the appropriate API method, then provide the returned data to Claude or ChatGPT for the analysis you want. This final handoff is an implementation pattern; Google’s API documentation does not describe it as a supplied assistant connector.

Why Google’s Developer Knowledge MCP is not a Search Console connection

Google’s Developer Knowledge MCP helps clients search and retrieve Google developer documentation. Google lists Claude Code among possible clients, but that does not mean the MCP can authorize access to your Search Console property or retrieve its performance data. See Google’s Developer Knowledge MCP documentation.

Use the MCP for questions about Google’s developer docs; use an OAuth-authorized Search Console API integration when the assistant needs data from your property.

What you need to verify before choosing an integration

The official sources cited here do not confirm current native connector availability, exact Claude.ai or ChatGPT setup steps, supported plans, or administrator requirements. If you are considering a third-party integration, verify its current documentation and check the details that determine whether it is suitable:

  • Can it access the specific Search Console property you need, using an account with sufficient permission?
  • Does it request read-only access or broader read/write access?
  • Which API data does it support: Search Analytics, Sitemaps, Sites, URL Inspection, or only some of them?
  • Does it handle authorization and credentials through a supported integration, or must you configure an API client?
  • Does it require a particular assistant plan or an administrator to enable it?

OAuth setup details depend on the application

Google’s general authorization documentation establishes the OAuth 2.0 requirement and available scopes, but it does not provide one universal configuration for every app. OAuth client setup, consent-screen details, redirect URI, token storage, and any verification or publishing requirements depend on the app type and the applicable Google identity-platform settings. Follow the current instructions for the specific integration rather than copying a redirect URI or configuration from an unrelated example.
