Turn off your Galaxy A20, eject the SIM/microSD tray with the pin inserted straight into its small eject hole, remove the SIM, then slide the tray straight back in if you are reinstalling it. Never force the pin or tray.
Before you remove the SIM
- Power off the phone first. AT&T and Verizon both advise turning off the Galaxy A20 before handling its SIM tray.
- Remove a case if it blocks access to the tray. The Japan-specific au SCV46 manual says to remove its supplied clear case before SIM handling.
- Use the SIM ejector pin supplied with the phone. The US unlocked Galaxy A20 (SM-A205U1) supports a nano-SIM (4FF), according to Samsung’s US support page. Other regional or carrier versions may differ, so check the manual for your exact model.
How to remove the Galaxy A20 SIM card
- Locate the tray. Look along the phone’s edge for the combined SIM/microSD tray and its tiny eject hole. AT&T describes the tray on the left side; Verizon describes it at the upper-left with the screen facing up. The position wording varies, so identify the tray and its hole on your device rather than relying on one orientation.
- Insert the ejector pin. Place the pin into the tray’s eject hole and press straight in until the tray releases slightly. Samsung manual text and the au SCV46 manual warn that angled insertion can damage the device or cause malfunction. Do not push into another opening.
- Pull the tray out gently. Draw it straight out, then lift the SIM from the tray. If you plan to put it back, note how the card sits before removing it.
- Reinsert the tray if needed. Align the SIM with the tray’s cutout and secure it in place. Card orientation depends on the model; for example, the au SCV46 manual specifies gold contacts facing down and the notched corner matching its tray. Slide the tray straight into the phone until it is fully seated; AT&T says it should click into place. Do not force it.
- Restart the phone. If you removed the SIM for troubleshooting, turn the phone back on and check whether it has service. Reseating the card does not guarantee that a network problem is resolved.
If the tray will not release
- Confirm that the pin is in the tray eject hole, not a nearby microphone opening.
- Keep the pin straight and press gently. Do not twist it or lever the tray outward.
- If you have lost the supplied pin, a purpose-made SIM ejector pin is the best replacement. Verizon also mentions a paper clip, but avoid sharp, oversized, or unstable objects.
- If the tray is bent, damaged, or still will not move, stop rather than forcing it. Use the instructions for your exact regional or carrier model, or contact Samsung or your carrier for help.
Model-specific guidance
The steps above apply to the general Galaxy A20 tray procedure, but the exact location and card layout are not established for every regional or carrier SKU. Samsung’s specification cited here is for the US unlocked SM-A205U1, while au’s detailed orientation instructions are for the Japan-specific SCV46. Check the label in your phone’s settings or its model-specific manual if your device differs. Samsung’s Galaxy A20 support page lists manuals for the US unlocked model.
