There is no evidence-based overall winner between KnownHost and Hosting.com. The better fit depends on whether you want a defined managed WordPress plan, broader hosting choices, or a particular backup and management setup. Compare equivalent plans and check the renewal price and terms for your region before buying: the published prices available here do not establish a like-for-like comparison.
What each provider offers
KnownHost
KnownHost lists shared hosting, managed WordPress, VPS, and dedicated servers. Its overview describes VPS as offering scalable resources and root access, and says managed services are available across shared, WordPress, VPS, and dedicated products where applicable. That range suits buyers who may need to move from a basic site to a server with more control. See KnownHost’s hosting overview.
Hosting.com
Hosting.com’s US hosting page lists shared hosting, customer cloud server/VPS, and dedicated hardware, with a same-platform growth path. Its shared plans start with a tier showing five websites and 15 GB NVMe storage; the displayed inclusions include email, security, managed migration, SSL, and daily backups. Higher tiers add items such as more websites and storage, CPU/RAM, staging or preview URLs, mailboxes, an SLA, premium SSL, or priority support. The exact combination depends on the selected tier. Review Hosting.com’s US plan details.

Which is better for WordPress?
KnownHost’s managed WordPress Entry plan provides a clearly specified single-site example. The vendor lists one WordPress site, 4 GB memory, 50 GB NVMe storage, 100,000 visits per month, unlimited premium bandwidth, LiteSpeed/LSCache, professional migration, and scheduled backups. These are plan claims, not independent performance findings; confirm the specifications on the purchase configuration.
#1 Best Overall
Hosting.com says WordPress can be installed with one click on any plan, and describes malware protection, automated patching, staging, migration, and daily backups. It also offers managed WordPress for customers seeking provider-managed updates, tuning, and security. A WordPress installation option on general hosting is not the same thing as a managed WordPress service: verify which maintenance tasks are included in the specific plan. See Hosting.com’s WordPress information.
For a single WordPress site with published resource limits and a stated renewal price, KnownHost’s Entry plan is the more readily assessable example in the available details. For multiple sites, mixed workloads, or interest in Hosting.com’s broader shared and server tiers, compare the exact Hosting.com plan and its management scope rather than assuming general hosting includes the same hands-off WordPress service.
How do the prices compare?
The available figures are not equivalent plans, so they do not show which provider is cheaper for the same workload.
| Plan and source | Published price | What the figure does—and does not—establish |
|---|---|---|
| KnownHost managed WordPress Entry | $5.98/month when billed annually; renews at $11.95/month | Vendor-listed price for this plan. Check the checkout configuration and applicable terms before purchase. |
| Hosting.com US shared hosting | $2.99/month shown as discounted from $11.99/month | Vendor page starting price; the exact renewal schedule and a matching KnownHost shared plan were not established. |
| Hosting.com US WordPress | $5.83/month shown as discounted from $10.41/month | Vendor page starting price; the exact plan, renewal schedule, and like-for-like comparison were not established. |
Do not compare an introductory monthly equivalent with another provider’s renewal price. Before ordering, check the amount due today, billing term, renewal amount, and the site and resource limits at checkout. KnownHost’s home page also lists shared hosting from $3.47/month and WordPress from $5.98/month, but those headline starting prices are not a substitute for matching plan terms. KnownHost’s overview.

Backups, migration, and management
Backups
KnownHost says every managed WordPress plan includes 2-day and 1-week backup retention by default, and its Entry listing mentions scheduled backups. Hosting.com’s US page describes daily backups stored off-server, restorable to any point within the last 30 days. These are different published descriptions; compare frequency, retention, restore process, and any restrictions for the exact plans you are considering.
Migration and support
KnownHost lists free professional migration for managed WordPress Entry. Hosting.com lists free managed migration among shared-plan inclusions. “Migration” alone does not specify the number of sites, eligible source hosts, scope, or turnaround, so confirm those details before relying on it. Hosting.com’s higher displayed tiers may include priority support; the listed shared-plan details do not establish identical support across all tiers.
Rank #4
How much is managed?
Choose by the work you want the provider to take on. Hosting.com distinguishes its general hosting plans from managed WordPress, which it describes as including provider-managed updates, tuning, and security. KnownHost labels its WordPress offer managed and lists plan-level resources and backup provisions. For either provider, ask whether WordPress core and plugin updates, server administration, security response, and restores are included in the particular plan—not merely whether the product is called managed.

Refund and uptime terms depend on the plan and region
Hosting.com’s US page advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee. Its Canadian package comparison lists a 99.95% uptime guarantee and 30-day money-back guarantee for the plans shown there; a separate localized result states a 99.9% uptime SLA. These figures are not a universal promise across all regions or products. Check the terms attached to the exact plan and location before using a guarantee as a deciding factor. A practical way to choose
- Match the workload. Decide whether you need one WordPress site, several sites, or a mix of workloads. Compare site allowances, storage, memory, traffic limits, and any CPU/RAM limits.
- Set the management level. Identify whether you need a WordPress-focused managed service, general shared hosting, VPS control, or dedicated hardware. Confirm what updates, security work, and server administration are actually included.
- Compare full-term cost. Record the billing commitment, amount due now, and renewal charge for the same kind of plan. Do not treat introductory prices as ongoing monthly costs.
- Check backup and migration terms. Verify backup frequency and retention, restore access, and the scope of any migration service.
- Verify location-specific conditions. Review the applicable refund and uptime terms for your region and plan, plus any support-level differences.
- Choose control deliberately. If root access or server-level flexibility matters, compare the VPS or dedicated offerings rather than judging providers solely on entry shared plans.
Verdict by use case
- Consider KnownHost if you want a defined managed WordPress single-site plan with stated resources and a published renewal price, or if root-access VPS options are relevant to your needs.
- Consider Hosting.com if its displayed shared-plan inclusions, off-server daily backups, or range from shared hosting to server products better match your requirements, or if you want to evaluate its separate managed WordPress service.
- Do not pick on a headline price alone. The available prices do not compare equivalent plans, and the effective cost depends on term, renewal, limits, and applicable terms.
No comparable independent performance test or uptime measurement is established here. Provider claims about hardware, caching, or uptime should not be read as a head-to-head result.
