To remove someone else’s Face ID from an iPhone or iPad you own or are authorized to manage, go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode, enter the device passcode, and tap Reset Face ID. This clears the full Face ID enrollment, including any alternate appearance. Set Face ID up again afterward if you want to use it.
How to remove an unwanted Face ID enrollment

On the iPhone or iPad whose Face ID needs changing, open Settings > Face ID & Passcode.

Enter the device passcode if prompted.

Tap Reset Face ID and confirm if asked. This removes the current Face ID enrollment and any alternate appearance; it does not let you delete only one face while keeping another enrolled.

If you want to keep using Face ID, tap Set Up Face ID and follow the on-screen instructions to enroll your face again.

Apple specifically recommends resetting Face ID if you think someone added an alternate appearance without permission. Its guidance uses the term “alternate Face ID appearance.” See Apple’s Face ID safety guidance and Apple’s Face ID setup instructions.
What if you cannot access the phone?
This Settings procedure is for a device you can access with authorization and its passcode. It cannot be used remotely to change Face ID on a phone you do not control.

If the phone is lost or stolen
Use Find My or iCloud.com to mark the device as lost, then secure your Apple Account. A local Face ID reset is not the practical first step if you cannot reach the device. Apple explains the available protections in its Stolen Device Protection overview.
If Stolen Device Protection intervenes
Depending on the protection settings and circumstances, sensitive changes may require Face ID or Touch ID, or a security delay followed by another biometric check. With the “Always” setting, adding or removing Face ID or Touch ID can require a delay. Follow the instructions shown on the device; a passcode may not substitute for biometric authentication in some protected actions. See Apple’s instructions for Stolen Device Protection on iPhone.

Why not erase the whole phone?
A factory reset is far more disruptive than resetting Face ID: it erases all content and settings, including Face ID data. It is not the normal way to remove an unwanted Face ID enrollment. Apple discusses erasing the device in the context of suspected tampering in its factory-settings safety guidance.
