You can use an eligible ChatGPT Plus or Pro plan in some third-party apps by signing in with ChatGPT and separately allowing the app to use your plan for eligible AI requests. Start in the app, choose Sign in with ChatGPT or Continue with ChatGPT, then review what you are authorizing. You do not need to create or share an OpenAI API key. OpenAI’s guide explains the current flow.

Sign-in and plan usage are separate choices

Signing in with ChatGPT lets a participating app use your ChatGPT identity to create or access an account. That sign-in alone does not authorize the app’s eligible AI requests to count toward your ChatGPT plan. If the app offers a separate plan-use option, you must choose whether to allow it.

Choice What it allows What to review
Sign in with ChatGPT only Uses your ChatGPT identity to sign into the app; it does not by itself enable plan usage. The account details requested and the app’s privacy terms.
Sign in and allow plan usage Eligible AI requests in the app count toward usage included with your ChatGPT plan. Eligibility, the app’s own plan requirements and charges, and your usage controls.

OpenAI’s developer documentation says commercial availability is limited to selected partners. Its app directory distinguishes apps that support plan usage from those that support sign-in only, and listings may change: OpenAI app directory and developer quickstart.

How to connect a ChatGPT plan to an app

  1. Open the third-party app or website you want to use.
  2. Choose Sign in with ChatGPT or Continue with ChatGPT, if offered.
  3. Sign into the ChatGPT account whose plan you intend to use. Check that it is the right account before continuing.
  4. Review the identity information the app will receive. If a separate option to use your ChatGPT plan appears, decide whether to enable it. You can complete sign-in without opting in to plan usage.
  5. If you are already signed in, look in the app’s account or billing settings for a way to change its plan-use choice.
  6. In ChatGPT settings, check app usage and set a weekly limit for the app if you want one.

Menus and availability can differ by app, account, region, ChatGPT plan, and—in managed workspaces—administrator policy. If the sign-in or plan-use choice is not available, the app or account may not be eligible.

What plan usage costs and how limits work

When enabled, eligible app requests draw on usage included in your ChatGPT plan. ChatGPT settings show usage attributed to each app and let you set a weekly app limit. That limit is a ceiling within your overall plan usage, not a separate allowance or reserved pool. An app can reach its own limit while you still have plan usage available elsewhere. Check the reset information shown in settings; signing in again or retrying requests does not restore usage already consumed.

The third-party app may also charge for its own subscription, infrastructure, services, or premium features. Review its pricing and terms before proceeding. If the app cannot use your plan or credits, OpenAI says it does not automatically switch to another paid option.

Optional credits after included usage

Some accounts may offer an option to use credits after included plan usage is exhausted. This requires a separate opt-in, applies across participating apps subject to each app’s limits, and is distinct from automatic credit purchases. An app must have a 100% usage limit to be eligible for credits; setting that limit does not itself turn credit use on. A lower app limit prevents that app from using credits. Availability depends on account eligibility and available credits. OpenAI’s plan-use guidance describes these controls.

What the app can access

OpenAI says ChatGPT sign-in shares basic identity details—your name, email address, and profile picture if you have one. Sign-in does not independently share your ChatGPT conversations, memories, files, tokens, or billing information. Allowing plan usage in an app does not by itself grant access to your conversations or memories, and it does not share an API key.

An app may request other data or permissions separately. Read each permission request and the app’s privacy information; approval to sign in is not blanket consent for unrelated access. See OpenAI’s sign-in and plan-use guidance and its information about using apps with ChatGPT.

OpenAI’s terms dated September 29, 2026 prohibit using one person’s subscription to fulfill another person’s requests, as well as pooling, transferring, reselling, gifting, or sharing plan usage except as expressly permitted by the terms. Do not treat a personal plan as a shared account or resale arrangement. Read the terms of use.

If the app cannot use your plan

  • The app says your account is ineligible: Confirm you signed into the intended ChatGPT account, check whether your plan qualifies, and verify that the app supports plan usage on its own app plan. A managed-workspace policy may also restrict the feature.
  • Sign-in works, but requests do not use your plan: Check whether you separately opted in to plan usage. Then review the app’s weekly limit and your overall plan usage in ChatGPT settings.
  • You want to stop plan usage: Use the app controls in ChatGPT settings to change or disconnect the app where available. Disconnecting does not reverse usage already recorded, and the app may keep its own signed-in session until you sign out there.
  • A feature is missing: Support for a feature in ChatGPT or the OpenAI API does not guarantee it is available through plan usage in a particular external app.
