To change your Hinge location, open your profile, tap the pencil icon, then choose Location under My Vitals. Select a place with the compass, search, or map, then go back to save. You can also change it from Discover preferences under My Neighborhood.
Change your location in the profile editor
- Tap the Photo icon in the navigation bar.
- Tap the Pencil icon beside your profile photo.
- Under My Vitals, tap Location.
- Choose how to set the place:
- Tap the compass to use your device’s current location. Hinge may ask for location permission.
- Search for a city, neighborhood, address, or ZIP/postal code.
- Pinch to zoom or move the map pin to the desired area.
- Go back to save.
These controls are documented in Hinge’s Location Settings guide. Hinge’s profile-editing instructions also describe the pencil, Location field, compass, map, and search controls.
Change it from Discover preferences
From Discover, tap the sliders icon to open Preferences, choose My Neighborhood, then select a place with the compass, map, or search bar. This is a separate route to choosing the area used for Discover; the profile editor is the direct route for changing the Location field on your profile.

Hinge says place names come from Google Maps, and some neighborhood names may be outdated. Search for a neighborhood to choose a more specific area, or zoom out or search for a broader place to use a less specific label. Hinge says a manually added location shows the selected neighborhood name, not your exact address.

Location and Hometown are different profile fields: Location is where you are now; Hometown is where you are from.
What happens when you travel or move
Hinge does not automatically update your profile location when you log in. After moving or arriving somewhere new, change the setting yourself using one of the routes above. You can also set it to a place you plan to visit, but changing the in-app location does not guarantee Hinge can be downloaded or accessed in that destination. Check Hinge’s Location Settings guide for destination availability before relying on the app while traveling.

Set the distance you want to search
The Maximum Distance preference sets a radius for nearby profiles. Hinge says the radius is based on straight-line radial distance, not travel time; a nearby match may still take longer to reach by road or transit. You can mark the distance as a dealbreaker if you want to see only people within the selected radius.

If the map does not show the place you expect
- Try searching a city, neighborhood, address, or postal code rather than relying only on the map label.
- Zoom out for a broader area or move the pin to refine the selection.
- If using the compass, allow Hinge to access device location when prompted.
- Keep in mind that Hinge uses Google Maps place names, which may include outdated neighborhood labels.
