To personalize a Xiaomi lock screen, change its wallpaper in the Themes app or under Settings > Wallpaper, then choose Set as Lock screen. You can also adjust the clock, shortcuts, and—in some models—what appears after swiping down. The available controls depend on your phone model, software version, region, and theme.
Change the lock-screen wallpaper

Open the Themes app and tap Wallpapers, or go to Settings > Wallpaper.

Choose an image. A live wallpaper may be available if your phone offers it.

Tap Apply.

Xiaomi’s wallpaper and themes instructions describe these options. The exact labels can vary by device and software.
Change the lock-screen clock
On MIUI 14, Xiaomi documents this path: Settings > Lock screen > Lock screen clock format. Choose a layout from the options shown on your phone.

The clock format cannot be changed while Dual clock is enabled, according to Xiaomi’s MIUI 14 instructions.

A third-party theme can prevent changing the lock-screen layout. If the setting is unavailable, check whether Dual clock is on and whether you are using a third-party theme.
A separate Xiaomi support page lists Settings > Always-on display & Lock screen > Lock screen clock style for a clock-style control. These different paths are not contradictory universal instructions: they reflect differences in device and software. See Xiaomi’s clock-style guidance and use the path that matches your phone.
Use HyperOS lock-screen editing if your phone supports it
Xiaomi’s HyperOS overview describes lock-screen controls for clock and signature changes, colors, filters, and styles. The overview cautions that “The layout and the features may differ with system versions and phone models.” It was published on December 31, 2023, so treat it as an overview, not a device-by-device feature list. Check your phone’s own lock screen and settings for the options available to you. Read Xiaomi Community’s HyperOS overview.

Xiaomi 14T: edit by pressing and holding
For the Xiaomi 14T, Xiaomi documents a quick wallpaper editor that you can open from the lock screen:

Go to Settings > Lock screen.

Turn on Press and hold to edit.

Press and hold the lock screen to edit the wallpaper, choosing a custom image or a system wallpaper.
This toggle and gesture are documented for the Xiaomi 14T; Xiaomi’s FAQ does not establish that they are available on every Xiaomi phone. See Xiaomi’s Xiaomi 14T instructions.

Customize lock-screen shortcuts
Xiaomi documents a shortcut setting at Settings > Lock screen > Customize shortcuts. From there, you can change the left shortcut, which is triggered by swiping right, or set it to None. The choices shown may depend on the phone. Xiaomi’s shortcut FAQ covers this setting.
Choose what appears after swiping down
On the Xiaomi 14T, Xiaomi documents the path Settings > Notifications & status bar > Items shown on the Lock screen after swiping down. Use it to choose which items are visible in that view. Xiaomi advises considering whether sensitive notification content could be seen by others, particularly in public. This specific setting is documented for the Xiaomi 14T, not confirmed as a universal Xiaomi menu. See Xiaomi’s Xiaomi 14T notification guidance.
If a setting is missing

Check the phone’s model and installed system version; Xiaomi says lock-screen menus and features can differ between devices and system versions.

For clock changes, check whether Dual clock is enabled or a third-party theme is restricting the layout.

Look for an equivalent control under the lock-screen or wallpaper settings on your phone. Do not assume a model-specific gesture or menu exists on another Xiaomi device.
