Yes—GeForce NOW supports ChromeOS, so it can run on a school Chromebook that meets NVIDIA’s requirements. That does not guarantee it will work at your school: device-management settings or the school network may block access. Ask your school administrator whether the service is permitted.
What a Chromebook needs to run GeForce NOW
NVIDIA lists these ChromeOS requirements in its GeForce NOW system requirements:
- Memory and browser: At least 4 GB of RAM and Chrome 77.x or later.
- Internet speed: At least 15 Mbps for HD streaming at up to 60 frames per second, or 25 Mbps for FHD at 60 frames per second.
- Latency: Less than 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center.
- Connection: NVIDIA recommends Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
These are service requirements, not a guarantee of smooth play on every connection. NVIDIA’s requirements can change, so check the current page if your Chromebook or browser is close to the minimum.
How to open GeForce NOW on a Chromebook
- Open Chrome and go to play.geforcenow.com. NVIDIA’s Chromebook announcement directs users to this site and says to log in with a GeForce NOW account.
- Sign in to your account and follow the on-screen steps to start a game.
- Use the Chromebook keyboard and touchpad, or connect a compatible mouse or gamepad if you prefer.
NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW 2.0.22 release notes also give the Chromebook sign-in instructions. The announcement describes Chromebook support for GeForce NOW members; consult NVIDIA’s current service pages for current account and feature details.

Why a school Chromebook may not let you play
Meeting NVIDIA’s technical requirements does not override school controls. A school may manage the Chromebook or restrict access through its network, and policies differ by school. NVIDIA’s compatibility information cannot establish whether a particular school permits gaming or allows GeForce NOW.
If the site is blocked or the Chromebook shows a management restriction, ask the school administrator whether access is allowed. Do not try to bypass school controls. Changing a browser or network setting cannot grant permission, and you cannot change school network equipment unless you are authorized to manage it.

Check the setup before troubleshooting
- Confirm device basics: Check that the Chromebook has at least 4 GB of RAM and that Chrome is version 77.x or later.
- Check the connection: On a network you control, compare its speed and latency with NVIDIA’s guidance. Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi may help when available.
- Separate a connection issue from a restriction: If the page will not load on school Wi-Fi or the Chromebook reports that access is managed, ask the administrator rather than changing school settings.
- Choose optional input: NVIDIA recommends an external USB gaming mouse and lists Xbox controllers and Sony PS5 DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers among supported gamepads. A controller or mouse is not required to determine whether the service is allowed.
Does Chromebook streaming require a higher membership tier?
NVIDIA says GeForce NOW Ultimate is required for certain higher-performance Chromebook features, including 1600p and 120 FPS streaming. That tier requirement applies to those features; it does not change the basic Chromebook compatibility requirements above. Check NVIDIA’s current plan and system information for up-to-date feature availability.
