To reset a Samsung soundbar, first find its exact model code on the type label at the rear, then follow the reset instructions for that model. There is no single button sequence for every Samsung soundbar: many recent models use the bar’s + and – buttons, while some older models require a remote-control button. A factory reset returns settings to their defaults, so you may need to set up the soundbar again afterward.
Find your model before pressing reset
Check the type label on the back of the soundbar for its model code. Use that code to find the matching manual or Samsung support page; instructions can vary by model, software, and region. Samsung’s Germany support guide covers families from F (2013) through C (2023), but a family name alone may not identify every model’s exact procedure. Do not combine steps from different generations or regional guides. Confirm whether your soundbar should be on or in standby, which controls to use, how long to hold them, and what completion signal to expect.

Reset using the method for your model
Many 2021-and-later models
Many newer Samsung soundbars reset when powered on and you hold the + and – buttons on the soundbar together for several seconds. The required timing and confirmation vary, so use the instructions for the exact model rather than assuming a single duration or signal. Some model-specific instructions use a five-second hold. Samsung Brazil’s reset guidance describes its directions for 2021-or-newer models.

Some HW-Q*D, HW-S*D, and HW-LS60D models
For the specific models listed in Samsung Singapore’s guidance, turn the soundbar on and hold Volume – and Volume + together for more than five seconds. On the covered Q models, wait for “INIT.” On the listed models without a display, Samsung describes a white LED sweep, three cyan flashes, then a red flash and shutoff. These signals apply to the models covered by that guidance, not to every soundbar with a similar family name. Samsung Singapore’s troubleshooting guide gives the model-specific steps and indicators.
Some 2020 and older models
Depending on the model, the reset may use a remote button such as Play/Pause, Settings/Sound Control, or Stop. Some older models also support a button combination on the soundbar itself. Samsung’s Brazil instructions, for example, describe a 2020 procedure that starts with the remote while the bar is off, then continues with the + and – buttons on the bar. Follow the sequence for your exact model; do not substitute the newer-model method. Samsung Colombia’s reset guide also lists procedures across different model families.

Check the reset confirmation and set up again
Depending on the model, a successful reset may be indicated by “INIT” or “INIT OK,” a particular LED sequence, a voice confirmation, or the soundbar shutting off. Wait for the indicator specified in your manual; a dark display or a flash pattern can mean different things on different models.

A reset restores the soundbar’s settings to default. Afterward, reselect the input or source you use and reconnect or reconfigure devices as needed. Samsung confirms that soundbar settings return to default after a reset in its no-sound troubleshooting guidance.

Try these checks before a factory reset
If there is no sound
- Confirm the connected TV or other audio device is powered on.
- Check that the soundbar is set to the input or source connected to that device.
- Verify that the cables or other connections are seated correctly.
These checks are part of Samsung’s no-sound troubleshooting steps. A reset may be appropriate after basic connection and source checks, but it is not a substitute for confirming that the soundbar is receiving audio.
If Bluetooth will not pair
- Put the soundbar in Bluetooth pairing mode using its model-specific instructions.
- Make sure the phone or other device is also in pairing mode.
- Check whether a firmware update is available for the soundbar.
- Try pairing a different Bluetooth device to help determine whether the issue is with the original device or the soundbar.
Samsung’s Bluetooth troubleshooting guidance recommends requesting service if no Bluetooth device can pair after these checks.

If your soundbar is a covered 2023 Q-Series model
Samsung’s US firmware page describes an issue affecting some soundbars, including 2023 Q-Series models. For the models and issue covered there, Samsung says to unplug and reconnect the soundbar before updating through SmartThings or USB; it identifies improved firmware v1004.0 or later. This guidance is model-specific, not a general reset or firmware instruction for all soundbars. Check the page against your model before acting: Samsung’s soundbar firmware update page.
If the documented reset does not work
Check the model’s manual or support page again to verify the power state, buttons, hold duration, and expected indicator. If the soundbar still behaves incorrectly, contact Samsung support or arrange service. For persistent Bluetooth problems, Samsung specifically recommends service when no device can pair after the troubleshooting checks above.
